I know this is a Moog forum but take two

Buchla is rereleasing the Buchla Music Easel. The rumor is, it well sell for $3999.

With all the new stuff coming down the pipe, the things I would spend cash on are:
a repop of the Mysic Easel.
The P12 from DSI
Archangel sequencer from STG
Moog might want to take notice that none of their repackaged minimoog style mono synths are on that list. I seriously doubt I would buy ANY poly they built because it would be a repackage of a mini with the same filter, same routing, same envelopes, just more voices. And an unbelievable price point.
I have a lot of Moog gear, but nothing they have done in he last 4 years has peaked any interest. It is all just rehashing earlier designs. The only thing they would seem to be capable of churning out with a rehash that I would be interested in would be a stand alone touch screen. Like Bob has already done once before.
EDIT: I’m not really interested in the repackaged Korg, either. But would buy it over a sub phatty from what I’ve seen of the SP.

Koma is working on one:

Rehashing old design’s? what work’s musically work’s and what doe’s not doe’s not

The ā€œMoog soundā€ was designed with musicians in mind and as such it is restrained within a tonal context a bit the same as a tried and True guitar are bass.

Most modular gear is designed with experimenter’s in mind and to let you run wild sonic ly a bit more like super colliders than musical instruments
all the option’s for smashing things into things in a most annoying fashion as youtube is evidenced

I love experimenting with wild sounds and can accomplish about the same as a typical 6000$ modular with one of my circuit bent Casios

I chose Moog gear because I liked the sound and could afford it at the time
Their synth’s in combination with Foogers give plenty of options for me

I could of spent my money on a truck load of rotary encoded crap I suppose, with new this are new that tacked on for sale’s rep’s to ramble on about.
I have a novation ultrastation and it pretty much covers all the mego modulated 17.3 pole filter base’s for me

Right now I am experimenting with the different overdrive’s on the Foogers with the mix knob’s generally set on very close dry trying to get a sense of how different one’s drive
dynamically

I really had some nice metallic overtone’s coming out of the Voyager through a Moog delay with the drive maxed out
the sound is huge on this delay in my opinion, the Freqbox is and acid farting beast in combination with my XL and they do expand greatly on the rigid Moog synthesis building philosophy

Expensive yes but not roto encoaded crap like that new electron 4 a snorezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz that ain’t so cheap neither

I’ll be saving my nickle’s and penny’s for that new rehashed Korg MS 20 cheesy little squeak machine

Lots of great new synth gear this namm. I’m really liking the new SubP.It made it easer not to spend three times the amount on a knobby Moog, and that gives me half the cash for the new Easel. The new Korg MS-20m sounds great as does the new P12. Good start to the year.

What excites me more than anything is this new Vintage Vibe Clavinet though they probably want more than 3k for it. Id rather get an old D6 for 1500 if I could find one at that price.

Or Vibanet…

This Pittsburgh Modular System 2 might be a great partner for the Sub Phatty or Korg MS-20 Mini:

Only $699 gets you this cute little mini-modular with sequencer, analog delay, ring modulator, etc.

Sweet honeybee of infinity, that’s badass! I might have to sell the old D6. That thing is just too cool.

I don’t get why everyone wants Moog to do something new. What the hell’s wrong with what they’ve been doing over the past 40 years? Would you want Taylor to redefine their acoustic guitars? Would you want Steinway to come out with a ā€œGrand Piano for the 21st Centuryā€? No? Then why do you have different expectations from Moog? As far as I’m concerned, Moog have the art of the monophonic synth nailed, and I would not want them to change their formula. What they do is perfect to me, and there is no sense in fixing something that is not broken.

Can I get an Amen !

Random responses to various comments:

  1. Taylor introduced a new body style.

  2. Don’t count me with ā€œeveryoneā€, lol. I actually like the Sub Phatty and am very interested in what Moog ends up doing with LEV-96, but I do not demand Moog to do anything, other than stay alive, so I will continue to have a place to send my Voyager for servicing (if needed).

  3. New Korg Wavedrum Global is also on my gear lust list. Would love to hold a rod/stick against a Wavedrum skin and bow it, play around with the DSP engine settings, and run the audio into the MS-20 Mini’s ESP jack for pitch->CV conversion (and potentially hilarious results).

AMOS!!

Err AMEN!!

I’m kind of disappointed in the new Blue wave Drum. I use two Wavedrums in my set up and I love them. That said Korg is dropping the ball IMHO . A lot of the Wavedrum community have been requesting a more pro model. A better programing scheme like the original WD had or a usb to editor program, more presets (not for sounds but for quick patch recall) and a way to daisy chain multiple Wavedrums together for one button patch changes. For two of the projects I use mine for they are my only drums, And I’m the drummer. Maybe next year

I’d be more of a casual Wavedrum user than a pro one, so I’m just happy Korg hasn’t given up on this product like they did in the past, and continue to release new editions. Maybe they’re working on a Pro Edition?

Korg has had reps like RichF and Dan (forgot his last name) hanging out in forums, answering questions here and there, and - I’m guessing wildly here - collecting feedback from users. I don’t know if they’d venture into ā€œenemyā€ territory (here), but I’m sure they have somebody on Muff Wiggler, Gear Slutz, etc. RichF was on Harmony Central and Keyboard Magazine’s forum.
