Howard Jones synced

Hi

I was watching the latest Howard Jones DVD, where he plays two Moog Prodigy synths, a Roland Jupiter-8, a SCI Pro 1 and others… That sync sound on the Prodigy is amazing, don’t you think? I don’t know whether it can be done on a Voyager.

:sunglasses:

I managed to get a reasonable simulation on my Voyager, but I certainly couldn’t get it as ‘dirty’. Prodigy sync is unique as far as I’m concerned and worth getting a Prodigy for.

BTW: I’ve got that DVD and the retro set is great to watch.

I agree that the Prodigy’s sync is like no other.. It sounds sooo good and was the only reason I really miss my prodigy (my first moog ever)..

But, I must say the LP is as close as I’ve heard to duplicating the Prodigy sync.. Especially with the overload cranked.. It’s super dirty and sounds VERY, VERY analog… Cuz it is of course

Plus the LP is bulit 1000 times sturdier than the Prodigy (Which was hot glued together..) The LPs craftsmanship rivals the Model D and Voyager ( in terms of being built like a tank)

YAY !

I like the Prodigy sync also, although it’s a little limited as you can only control it from the wheel (I think). On a standard Prodigy, theres no way to assign the envelope or LFO to the sync signal like you can on a MultiMoog or even Rogue.

The MultiMoog sync is very sharp in fact and reminds me of sync on an Odyssey (which is a fantastic sound and a bit more “cutting” than the Prodigy). I think the Prodigy sync is a little heartier in some ways, but also duller in tone. But it’s too bad you can’t envelope the sync, becasue that makes a wicked funky tone on an Odyssey or MultiMoog.

Of course, if you had an external Env and later Prodigy with “sync” input, you could get this sound.
