Cyril is an amazing talent. If you only know of him from the brief mention in Keyboard Magazine’s May 2003 issue (the Bob Moog ‘Voyager’ issue), this article will give you the real perspective on Cyril’s background and the story of how he became Bob’s successor.
Thanks for pointing this out, sine!
BTW - The link to DogTalk music provided in the metronc article doesn’t work (it produces a ‘404’ error). Instead, try:

Very good article!
Back in the late 90’s I was working as a plumber in Florida trying to figure out what the hell I was going to do with my life! I was taking a night course in trigonometry at the local CC and doing some work with audio engineering/recording but things were moving slow. One night while walking through the CC’s library to study I passed a big orange book which had Synthesizer boldly blazed across its spine! Intrigued, I picked it up and began to read. I was amazed at how much of the synthesizer’s technology related to what I was currently studying in my trig course with sine’s, cosine’s, ect. The book was dedicated to Dr. Robert Moog for inspiring the author to get into audio electronics and work for an EE degree. I’m a synth Geek who was kicking ass in trig so I knew at that moment what to do!! Dr. Moog’s work has been the catalyst for many people’s lives including mine!
Could I ever have imagined that my studies would one day land me in the position to work with one of Bob’s greatest designs? “how things work out…” My sister calles it serendipity!!
I never had an opportunity to work or talk with Dr. Moog but it has been a privilege to know and work alongside SteveD, Cyril, Peio, Amos, Tony, Eric, Jason, Ryan, Betty, Jan, Gary… ect.
As Cyril said in the interview:
“You know, unlike the vast majority of electronic products in this country — around the world, for that matter — Moog assembles and calibrates their own products at the plant in Asheville. There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into making these synthesizers. Part of the thing about buying a Moog synthesizer, or any Moog product, is that we put our souls into them.”
If you ever get an opportunity to visit the factory you will feel it as soon as you walk through the door!
Just don’t touch the break table’s danishes or the coffee! Ask first!! ![]()
