When will these pedals be released? I’m really having an existential breakdown here. I can afford the $500 now, but depending on when (and if) they are released I may or may not be able to make the other payment of $1195. Any advice on what I should do would be helpful…
First I don’t think they even have the prototype yet, hence no pictures and I think the sound samples came from an Original Taurus pedal as per the description on the page of the samples.
So this initial investment of 125,000 (thats 250 orders @ 500 a piece) will enable them to do the initial prototype models, labor parts and software development.
THey are anticipating a late 2009 release, but looking at the late release of the Mp-201 and the Moog Guitar it will probably be later than that. So do something worthwhile like give up fast food and pops for the year and youll have enough to get your pedals.
The only thing that worries me, and it doesn’t worry me THAT much, is that when I ordered it, there wasn’t an option to put $500 down…just to buy one for $17-something after shipping. I hope they don’t charge that amount to my credit card.
Do early buyers have a guarantee that they will get their deposits back should the worst happen and Moog need to file Chapter 11?
I’m not trying to be a buzzkill, I’m just asking. And with that, here’s hoping that everyone gets a set of Taurus pedals that are twice as awesome as the originals, that they’ll be delivered 6 months sooner than anticipated… and that each set will be delivered with with a free CP-251!
Thanks everyone! mayidunk, SILENCE!! Moog will never have to file Chapter 11, because they are way too awesome for all that.
If they DO, I will write to my congressman and tell him to allow as much of the $700 Billion bailout to be given to Moog Music Inc. as what they need. To H311 with the auto companies and the banks! They screwed themselves! I want my pedals, and I want them next year!
I am ashamed! I fully expect a knock on my door at 2:30 tomorrow morning, with the last thing I ever see being Chuck Norris’ foot connecting with my poor, pitiful, yet oh so deserving head!
No thats a Legit question. I don’t think they will be going bankrupt though.
I think the pedals will be on par with the Taurus I.
THe only difference will be something that they won’t be able to capture. FOr instance, they will get that FAT sound they WILL get everything right. There will be something though in the timbre of the Oscillators that perhaps won’t be the same, just like the Voyager doesn’t sound exactly like the Model D.
This is because of the old chips and resistors in the circuit. I can take the 1 Osc of the Voyager and compare it to my MicroMoog and the Micro has a characteristic that the Voyager doesn’t. Its just something best left to someone like GregAE or Kevin to explain because they are the engineers. THe Micro, in an Osc to Osc comparison just sounds better to me. Thats the only area where it defeats the Voyager. (Switch on the other two and the Micro submits like a scared wet puppy whipped too many times by an apathetic master and yearning for the taste of his blood)
The finished product will deliver the fattest bass on the planet and rivaled only by the original Taurus I.
This is my opinion though.
I foresee More Model D VS Voyager debates followed by Taurus I vs Taurus III debates.
I think the Taurus 1 sound will be superior in its own way, but the sound of the III will be 99.9 percent on the level of the original, with the extra features like Midi and Presets being equivelant to the advantages that the Voyager has over the Model D.
Even if I never see my money again, I will keep in mind what could have been, and what almost was, and I will tell my grandchildren how I donated $500 to a synth company in hopes of having the greatest bass synth in the world, only to have them fold before the synth could be built.
I will then remind them that Chuck Norris only lets the most awesome of awesome companies survive, and that is the reason that there are no American car companies.
They will then wonder what kind of synth could be bought for the price of a bag of chips.
