Ok…So I finally got round to plugging the LP into my comp.
I have two midi (in and out) cables going from the phatty into an edirol midi in/out to usb converter and have that in my apple.
I’m using sysex librarian…
How do I send stuff or even find out if the two are communicating?
I know I select the sysex file and then hit play, but the little phatty isn’t saying anything about connection.
Get MIDIOX (http://www.midiox.com/).
Under the menu “Options → Midi devices …” select the midi ports your LP is connected to.
Under the menu “Action → Send → SysEx File …” select the SysEx file.
MidiOx won’t work for Mac. Only PCs. I don’t have a Mac but it is definitely a good idea to try a sequencer program from your Mac to your LP just to be sure your midi connections are working. That way, at least you aren’t doing any serious changes to your LP like trying to load a new OS.
If your Edirol is just a simple midi in/out and not a sound card in addition, I’d say your connection should be as stable as it’s going to get for computer to midi. I always run sysex through my simple midi in/out that came with my Emulator X2 software sampler and I’ve had not problems. You’ll probably tend to have more problems with fancier gear: multi-channel sound cards running midi timecode, midi patchbays also running time code, anything that throws in extra stuff.
Ok…So I realized I had to download new drivers for the Edirol USB/Midi thing…
And MIDI OX does recognize the Edirol device and it’s ports…the Little Phatty Doesn’t think it’s attached to anything…it’s not acknowledging the connection.
I can send stuff to it, but it doesn’t do anything.
Do I need to sync when I turn on my comp and the precisely or what? What’s going on?
Alright…well I ran the PC executeable on the moog website.
It did everything great…the stage 1…followed by stage 2…then Send Firmware SX appeared and all the lights (exluding glide on/off and 1/2 Sync) are glowing.
I know this is off topic, but I thought you should check out the “digital noise and stage edition” forum topic, Xenollop. In there Amos talks about how the Stage version doesn’t connect with RAC to a great number of parameters. Makes me feel a whole lot better about suggesting the Tribute.
