How do I chain a Sub Phatty to a Little Phatty for Polyphony

Hi all,

I was wondering if I can chain a Sub Phatty to a Little Phatty to get a polyphonic instrument. I tried it this way but it didn’t work:

  1. I ran a MIDI cable out of my Little Phatty to the MIDI In of my Sub Phatty.

  2. I turned on MIDI DIN MERGE on the Sub Phatty.

  3. I connected the MIDI OUT of the Sub Phatty to the MIDI IN of the Little Phatty.

  4. I turned the Local Keyboard OFF on the Little Phatty.

I though that this way would work, and I was cautious not to create a MIDI feedback loop, however, it didn’t seem to work. I tried pressing two keys but only one would sound at a time on my Little Phatty.

Can anyone out there help me? I was wondering if this is or is not possible with these two Moogs.

I don’t believe it’s currently possible to create a polychain with a Sub Phatty and a Little Phatty.

Amos did say this in March:

The plan is that one will be able to chain any combination of Sub Phatty, Sub 37, Little Phatty, Slim Phatty, and/or Minitaur, up to 16 units in total.

But at this time that’s just the plan AFAIK.

Why would you want that?
Put them side by side and play it like a 61 note synth with two different sounds!!

Not sure if the Sub Phatty actually works with poly-chaining or not.
That said, you probably need to take a look at the owner’s manual for the Little Phatty ~

Poly chain is a very specific operating mode of the Little (and Slim) Phatty, and there’s a bit more to getting it working than what you described.
It’s not difficult, but it’s all in the manual…
