i want to know, how can i create or define chord in a song & what’s the rules to make or create chord.

Not sure what you are asking. Are you asking how you determine the chords for a melody that is already written or one you have written?

The following chords will all harmonize with the key of C:

C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim

Simple songs don’t modulate but most do (change key)

Traditional Harmony

It’s easy to play a single note scale but when you play a scale using chords (inevitably, chord progressions in a song), you must follow the requisite harmonic formula for it to sound right or consonant. I recommend you learn Major & Sevenths first as they will be much easier.

Let’s see an example:

The formula for traditional harmony in major is:
Major minor minor Major Major minor diminished Major or
M m m M M m o M with Roman numerals assigned to each scale degree as such:
I ii iii IV V vi viio I.

So, playing a scale using chords in the key of C Major, we play:
CM, Dm, Em, FM, GM, Am, Bo, C where the 7th degree “o” is diminished.

Now, doesn’t that sound a lot better than playing all major chords from tonic to octave?

Natural minor (melodic descending)
minor diminished Major minor minor Major Major minor

Looks like troll fail, but he may be wanting to know how to fake a chord on a monophonic instrument. I’ve tried. It doesn’t work too good.

It seemed like a legit question to me . . .

Me too.

I’ve seen several newbies asking honest questions only to be shot down as spammers.

I really don’t see why anyone would troll this place to begin with, it’s not like it’s grand central.

Anyone try googling mahmudpilot? He’s made 2-5 posts in various music related forums, most notably the V-Drum forum (5 posts) and also is a member of the Mac users forum, but has yet to post something there. He’s from Bangladesh, and seems to be somewhat of an ameteur musician. Aren’t we all.

When I get home from work, I’ll try checking to see if I can listen to a song or two, as I’ve never heard any Bangladesh music before. I just wish he would say what instrument he is trying to make a chord on. It’s awful expensive to make a chord on a Little Phatty or Voyager…you need three of each, unless you have one Voyager and two LP’s, but then you need to disable osc. 3 on the Voyager. Perhaps he’s a lucky owner of a Polymoog or Memorymoog.

There is a whole thread dedicated to music theory. I appreciate everyone who helped make that thread what it is, especially DeFrag. That was very nice of him to put something so boring in a fun and understandable format. A single search would have revealed that thread. It would be nice if newcommers would do a search on a topic before starting a thread.

I’ll stop now, and will say no more of the matter.

I agree, people should always use the search function FIRST before posting.

On a side note, this thread on music theory is loaded with great information and would help mahmudpilot a lot:
