The first thing I’d modify on the VOS sequencer is replace all the mini jacks with 1/4 inch jacks if I was to build one. I’d also have green LED’s instead of red ones. That’s just me. I can’t leave stuff well enough alone. ![]()
Yes It was fun and it was my first build and Voltor07 is right the Clock out, Gate out and CV out could be changed to 1/4" and I use these three on my LPTE there is a S-trigger out that I don’t use maybe I could use this on my Rogue . ![]()
is that the old moog touch plate? ive never seen close up pics of it. normally its piled up with a bunch of other moog accessories from the early days

I believe you may be right!
I thought the Moog one was wider and never went into production. THe answer lies at the end of that cable.
It woudl likely have an accessory plug, S-trig, and a Gate and scale jacks.
Here is the schematic for the 10-stage sequencer, the big knob selects the number of stages (2 through 10-stages).

There was an auction up a while ago with that touch-plate, it was through Vemia www.spheremusic.com. I think it’s a British online auction house. If I remember correctly it was also posted on www.matrixsynth.com.
The ad read: “Bob Moog’s own handiwork, serial number TP010. When he started back into music manufacture in the early eighties, the model 300 touch-plate was one of his first products. This is the prototype Synton received from Bob for demonstration purposes. It has its own inbuilt power transformer, and the outputs are available on six 1/4in jack sockets, Moog knobs for controlling sensitivity. It has a Synton sticker on the back, saying ‘TOUCH PLATE USA’. Synton and Moog had a close relationship in the 80s, with reciprocal import/export. It is untested. This is from the collection amassed by Felix Visser, former head of Synton. All items were destined for a national technology museum project, many years in the planning, but finally cancelled by politicians and planners. They have mostly been stored unused for a number of years.”
Here is another model. The ad stated “Big Briar Model 331 Touch Plate. The third of the touchplates that came from Bob Moog’s friend and European accomplice Felix Visser, this was the Big Briar production model, although it still looks totally hand-made. This time, there are four controls, but all control voltages as well as any power are routed through the seven-pin DIN plug. Serial number 1024. Untested at present.”

They look like great controllers. Maybe this should be posted under the “What should Moog release next?” discussion.

Get rid of the all step jacks & the main reset jack… replace with a 10-position rotary switch. Mount it under the Rate knob in place of the existing reset jack.

Replace all SPDT step switches with DPDT & mount a row of LEDs just below the red LEDs in place of the current step jacks, that would light up solid when a step is off. Replacing all step LEDs with green & the “Off” LEDs would be red. You could even re-tool the cases by eliminating the holes for the step jacks altogether & simply use DPDT switches & bi-color LEDs!

I’d use 1/4” output jacks to keep from having to use 1/8” to 1/4” adapters to interface to my other analog gear & I think the washer of a 1/4” jack may in fact be too large & cover their silkscreened labels.
Or, just build your own case and copy the labels. I like the bi-color LED and DPDT switch idea. I have numerous rotary switches, including some from an old token ring hub, so cost isn’t a factor for that. I think I will order the barebones VOS sequencer. Great ideas DeFrag! ![]()
I bought the VOS sequencer kit and I have had lots of fun with it just as it is. I would love to have a Future Retro Mobius or better but for now. ![]()
I need a sequencer so freakin bad, but I wish that they had an analogue unit that had a digital brain like the Voyager so that you could store the settings in memory.
