Hi-Res values not shown for rotary switches

In the Editor, high-resolution values are not displayed for any of the rotary switches – the values are already converted into “human” units. The octave select gets 2’ 4’ 8’ 16’. The LFO waveshapes get “Triangle”, etc. The ARP Pattern gets “Up”, etc., instead of the numeric value.

Hi Mike,

Maybe I do not understand what you mean here, But I think this should be ok to see no numeric Values.
What you want to do with numeric Values?

It’s by design, so no problem. Thanks

Hi, Luloop! I just figured that since all other controls show the numbers, that the rotary switches should show the numbers, too. Also, for folks needing to send CC values, it might be more convenient to see the correct CC value here, instead of looking it up in the manual… which control, which position, what’s the proper value. And, finally, because Moog wants us to see these ginormous values everywhere, it sure seemed like those numbers were missing on the rotary switches. Actually, this sets the precedent that all controls should have human-readable values on them, hmm?

it’d be great to have a switchable choice of midi value / panel value display in the editor, but I get that all of these little wants add up

Hi,

I was not thinking it in this way, Yes it should be nice to see CC values. Great for the users who are working with these values.

As far as the “enormousness” of the values.. the knob parameters really have 16,384 valid values. The switches only have a few values. So if we showed the switch values as numbers, they would be 0,1,2,3 or 0 through 5.

It would be a little weird to show the CC values, since they aren’t “real” for the switches… any CC value between o and 31 would set a 4-position switch to “value 0”, for instance.

I admit it’s a little odd to have human-friendly values for only the switch parameters, but there aren’t many of them… the only good options i see here are to leave things as they are, or to use the raw / NRPN values for switches (0-3 or 0-5). I’m open to feedback on what you’d prefer.

(I should mention, using human-friendly values for every parameter is a large research project, since we don’t actually have a plot of how every parameter’s numeric value resolves to human-friendly units over its entire range, and there are a lot of variables involved.)

Unlike the knobs, we can already see the exact human value of switches/rotaries visually - so to me it would make most sense to show the cc values as that is additional information.
