hi everybody.
i’ve just bought a beautyful moog voyager rack.it sounds great when playing and there is no hiss and noise at all.
but when i record it,especially for very low frequencies sounds with the decay fully open, the result is disappointing,to be fair!!! awful noise & hiss all around!!!
i’m trying to replicate that particular kind of minimal techno bass sound, with a bit of resonance and a big decay,a la loco dice(for those who know),with a percussive feeling, punchy but with a smooth and deep sub section.
can you help me to find a good way to record the mighty moog into cubase studio4?my soundcard is a motu 828 mk2.
thanks for the help
Check the Bal/Unbal. switch on the back of the Voyager RME next to the output jacks.
If your audio interface has balanced inputs (and I think it does) then you should turn off the Voyager, set this switch to 600Ohm Bal. (UP position) and then use a balanced TRS (stereo) patch cord to connect the Left/Mono output of the RME to an input on your audio interface. This should, I hope, improve your signal/noise ratio quite a bit. Another thing you can try is in the mixing/mastering stage… use an EQ plugin with really steep/extreme filtering ability and cut the high frequencies until you can’t hear the hiss, only the bass. The frequencies you want are fortunately very far away from the “hiss” end of the spectrum, so with a band-kill or scientific EQ you should be able to fix the remaining problems w/ the recording. Good luck!
