Okay, so I’m new to the whole moog thing. I was going to buy a Voyager Anniversary Edition in the summer, but I need within the next week or two so I decided to start out with something cheaper and simpler. Any opinions as to what I should start with, a Rogue or a Prodigy? I can’t decide which. I’m going to be in an indie -ish band, along with a drummer bassist and guitarist. Are both of the models I listen monophonic?
For some reason, I’m inclined to suggest the Prodigy, if you could find it. I’ve never played a Rogue, but I have toyed with a Prodigy. I have a suspicion that the Prodigy has ballsier oscillators - but only since it seems bigger.
Are you planning to use the Moog for basslines?
The Rogue gives you a more distorted sound then the Prodigy.
If you look for a sound closer to the minimoog, then choose the Prodigy.
Or maybe even try going for a sequential circuits pro one. They are very flexible and reasonably cheap.
And they sound like a gritty bag of spanners.

i say just get a casio vl-1 and let your imagination run wild.
Get what you can afford and get what you can find! Just be creative - also don’t be afraid to use effects…
Exactly. I’d go for a Prodigy but it’s still your choice of course - good luck anyway !!
PS: and after all you still can’t go wrong; they’re both good MOOG synths with a great analog sound
For the type of music i make that is only a good thing it all comes down to taste really doesn’t it? plus in the pro one’s defence it is all about how you program the synth. the pro one is not always gritty i have got a pristine lead running through the pro one at the moment.
The Source has some great sounds in it as well, they have really had aa big runnup in price over the past year though. For a close to minimoog sound the Studio Electronics SE-1 does a good job. It has 3 oscillators and can be bought for under $800 these days.

Yeah I agree… I just can’t help indulging in my fave past-time of Sequential-Bashing!!
I love Pro-Ones really. I made a shed-load of cash selling one of mine last year, and I’ve two more of the things to offload on the tasteless shortly!!
