I’m searching for tune my little phatty to get sounds like minimal wave , if you are not familiar with minimal wave 80’s retro music check this video .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmWo9c8ER4U

any help is ok!!!

I have like 3 days with my LP and it has 100 presets but I’m just happy with 30 at least , I bought it to play minimal wave like the video music
can i change the presets and put retro presets to play that music??

No, you can’t change the presets in the Little Phatty.

?

You’re kidding - right?
That would kind of defeat the whole purpose of having a Moog synth with completely-editable & customizable presets, SYSEX support for changing patch sets, librarian software, etc., that the Phatty series is known for…

Shame on you for leading new Moogers astray…

Ah, shoot. I was only having a bit of fun… Of course you can edit the presets on the LP. Program “retro” patches, futuristic patches, or modern-day patches… Whatever you like. Moog synthesizers are meant to be programmed. Don’t just listen to the presets and decide you don’t like it. Have a look at the user’s manual. Get to know each parameter: what it does, how turning each knob to a different setting affects the timbre, and from there build a patch that you find usable for whtever it is you’re doing. It is a beautifully addictive process.

thanks!!! i’m a noob at this so i want to know how to put the patches and i want to know if there are more presets than the 100 factory presets that the lp has it. i dowload an arturia minimoog app and it has more presets than the lp i want to know if i can edit the presets by putting different presets to it. like sequencers, drum beats, basses, something like that. and where can i download those. :frowning: thanks for everything!!!

Here’s a little piece of advice: Stop thinking about presets. Pretend there is no way to switch to another patch, other than changing each of the parameters individually. Through doing this, you will learn how to fully utilize an analog synthesizer. You will learn how to create sounds from the ground up, and the only real limit to what you can create is your imagination.

thanks!! i said that because I’m practicing to play minimal wave, i’ll believe in you, i will try to learn to use it well . wish me luck in this project!! i tried a microkorg but the sounds of the microkorg are too different for minimal wave , so hope this LP dig the sounds of minimal wave!!!

Read about substractive synthesis. Every Moog manual contains a section on sound shaping. Go download a manual on the Moog Music site if you don’t have your LP’s manual. Better yet, google the Prodigy or Minimoog Model D user manual. Vintage synthesizers did not have any preset. You will find in those manual some preset examples where you are asked to set every control to get a tuba, violin, drum, helicopter, (whatever). By going from one example to the next, you will learn the relationship between each control (they were the same back then as they are on your LP) and how to shape sounds.

Good luck! Have fun!

I’ll second that: experiment yourself and read about substractive synthesis.

I’ll add this: try to forget the Arturia software for a week or so, and dive into the Phatty.

As a starting point, turn off the second oscillator. You may get thinner sounds.

thanks for everything you guys!!! I started to take a time on the moog little phatty factory presets, i need to take time to be familiar with this synth, i’ll try to do my best to dig that sounds and record stuff. so i also want to know if there is a special loop recorder to this synth to play bass synth loops and play harmonics or higher octaves over that loop, i will take time understanding the sounds of the little phatty. hope i find sounds that dig the minimal wave music!!!

The LP has no built in loop recorder, though a standard guitar loop recorder can be used with it. Because the LP is one note at a time, it can only play one patch at a time as well. I believe there are loop recorders available that can layer sounds, though.
