hi again, I 'm paul I’m just interested in know how can i get minimal wave presets, i get this lP to play minimal wave but i"m a noob in presets, anybody knows how to make minimal wave presets or retro sounds , well if you are not familiar with minimal music, here is a video /
The key to making the sounds you want, is understanding analog subtractive synthesis. Don’t think of the Phatty as a machine with “presets”, but rather, explore the oscillator section, the filter section, the envelope gen section, and of course, the modulation section. Each section interacts to the others. Dive in to synthesis, and you can create any sound you can imagine. Forget the presets. And, just fyi, one thread on a topic is plenty. No need to create 3 or more. Plenty of help on this forum.
those “retro sounds” were made by people using machines that sometimes didn’t have presets.
the people were really into the raw sounds of the new machines – they loved them and wanted to understand them.
If you want to sound like those people, you have to be like them. Learn to love the machines, and they will reward you.
That’s how to do it…
Read the part of the manual that talks about subtractive synthesis. Make connections between the basic concepts (waveforms and harmonics, filters and envelopes) and the knobs and buttons on the synth… pay attention to the way the sound changes as you adjust the various parameters.
Once you can associate certain kinds of sounds with the kind of moves you need to make on the synth to get in the ballpark of those sounds, you’re most of the way there. The rest is just practice.
It can also help to pick out simple sounds you like from the genre you are working in, sounds that can be made on a 2-oscillator mono synth, and try to copy those sounds on the Phatty… tweak the parameters by ear to get closer to your target sound, again paying attention consciously to the ways the sound is changing in response to what parameters you are adjusting.
