First thing is you can buy up all the websites. All the domains and social media sites and email addresses
Second, you have to just file the fees before they do. I seriously doubt anyone is going to drop a grand on a band name, which is why people can take the names so easily. But from what I looked at regarding trademarks, you have to pay to do a trademark search first (unless you can do it yourself) to make sure you aren’t wasting your money trying to trademark something then find out theres already one out there. Then, file the paperwork to get the trademark, then send them a cease and desist letter.
Are they based in the same country you are? Sometimes trademarks aren’t respected across international borders. For example, in the Philippines, you see all kinds of hollywood movie titles listed as businesses like “Ace Ventura Vulcanizing shop” or “Walter Mart” or you will see the yellow star on an orange background (Hardees) for other stores. Stuff like that.
