First things first. I’m new to Moog and this forum so I’ll introduce myself.
I’m a bass player from Denmark and I just bought my first moog. The little phatty. I’m gonna use it for playing basslines and nothing else. And I must say that so far it seems like a great choice for this purpose )
And now to the bug. I’m on version 2.2 and it’s a se2. Everytime the phatty is not played for around 20 secs or so the first note is missing the first part of the tone. The result is that it sounds as if I’m comming in to late.
Has anyone experienced this? It’s really a pain. Right now the workaround is turning down volume and playing a note before the real part starts. But I really dont like fiddling with the volume like this.
Nothing is connected to the phatty. Power chord and Jack out, thats it.
It occurs with all the sounds i use for bass so i doubt the envelope has anything to do with it.
Plus it only happens when it’s not been played for around 20-30 secs, and only the first note. After that it’s fine until the next short pause.
Sounds to me like it has something to do with the Auto Tuning mode. Go to the master menu and set Tune = ON, then you can control fine tuning from the fine tune knob but the unit will not auto-correct tuning in the background.
To explain a bit better, when Tune is set to Auto, then after a short pause with no playing, the LP mutes its output and sets the preset to the Calibration preset, and it measures the pitch of the oscillators and makes small adjustments if needed to keep the tuning perfect.
The only drawback is that it does take just a moment when you first press a note after this, for the synth to switch back to the correct preset settings and turn on the output. Most people don’t notice this, but apparently you do.
If you let the synth warm up 15-20 minutes and set the tuning manually, it should stay in tune without drifting anyway. So setting Tune to On or Off will disable this auto-tune routine and should prevent the delay you’re experiencing.
