Did anyone know how to do a hardware reset on a Voyager? Unfortunately it is not possible for me to call Moog tech support during their business hours due to my work schedule and the time difference.
There isn’t a hdwr reset on the Voyager. The closest thing to it is to cycle the power OFF/ON.
Greg
This is what I got so far from tech support:
There is a hands-on hardware reset we can perform if absolutely necessary; this will require a little alligator-clip wire or test lead
Has anyone ever done this?
Nope. Sounds like a procedure that involves opening up the Voyager. What is the problem?

My Voyager does not have an OS. Currently it is running in the Minimal System Mode and refuses to load OS 1.5. So far I spent 12 hours trying to ugrade the Voyager. I even bought a new MIDI interface after reading related posts here.
How did that happen?
Tried to upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5. It erased the existing OS but never finished writing 1.5 into EEPROM or whater the Voyager is using.
Hello,
Was there a power interrupt during the upgrade process?
Regards,
Lawrence
My Voyager stalled during upgrade. I eventually had to turn off the power. That is why I believe that I need to do a Hardware Reset first before trying anything else.
My Voyager loaded OS 2.5 about 75% when I tried to update it. It failed several times and I didn’t have any problems.
Thank you for your support an congratulations getting OS 2.5 running! I only tried to update to OS 1.5 and it failed severe. I have read all the OS-Update related posts and have tried them all! (3 types Midi interfaces, different Cables, PC, Mac, OS-X, WindowsXP, MIDI-OX, SysEx, Moog Editor Programs, Sequencer, small block size, big block size, many buffers, large delays, no delays etc.) You name it, I tried it…twice including the purchase of a brand new Midi interface that suppose to work.
I also was thinking that it might be impossible to upgrade a Minimal System straight to 1.5. It may need OS 1.0 installed first. But tech support did not see the need for supply me with that file.
My Voyager fails after receiving the first byte! At this point I have to assume that my SysEx transfer is fine. I believe that my Voyager cannot process the information received and therefore requires a Hardware Reset.
Don’t EVER interrupt power during a system upgrade. You hosed it. What you did was interrupt the burn routine for the flash ROM, don’t EVER do that.
You may have to send the Voyager back to Moog to get its marbles fixed.
And what do you suggest if burning did not finish after 15 minutes?
Tough call. I would’ve done the same thing and turned the shiit off. But yea, it does look like you’ll have to send it to Moog or a qualified service technician for repair at this point.
Thanks Monads. The other option is to get the 3.0 hardware upgrade, which in my case would be cheaper than shipping the entire Voyager.
Technical support from Moog left me out in the cold so far. I am trying now for two weeks to get help from them. Received only one email from them after a week! It mentioned is the possibility of a hardware reset.
To make things worse: None of the posts here have provided an answer to my original question: how to do a Hardware Reset. Guess I have to spend another weekend voyager-less…
Forget the hardware reset!
The sound portion of the Moog is Analog but the control section is digital. When I inserted my new digital board it gave me OS3.1 and all the new banks and all is fine (although i still need to properly tune the oscillators).
With your problems it does seem that you should order the 3.0/1 upgrade. It does suck if what you bought at working value failed! Don’t give up!!
My 3.1 Voyager is tip-top!! ![]()
The sound is REAL!!
There’s no hardware reset on a Voyager.
What file did you try to load first: bank B or A?
Information I receive from the tech support:
There is a hands-on hardware reset we can perform if absolutely necessary; this will require a little alligator-clip wire or test lead
Moog did not use the term Bank when upgrading to OS 1.5. The correct sequence is: OS_1.5 then Boot_OS_1.2.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Async,
RL’s the Moog software writer so he knows best! Hardware reset (as far as i understand) doesn’t make sense!
When you upgrade your OS there are three parts from the Moog site.
Bank A, B, and C. Unintuitively the load sequence is to first load bank B and then bank A and finally bank C. This is what RL pointed out.
I hate to say it, but the manual points out that you shouldn’t power down during OS loading (even if it’s beyond you).
Best of Luck!
Hi Async,
I couldn’t find the boot version 1.0 on my computer. When I wrote the software I used a DOS PC. I guess the minimal sytsem can’t send the Boot ROM… as a SysEx file to the MIDI output???
The easiest way is to ask Moogmusic for the Flash ROM, the Flash ROM is in a socket and I think you can change that by yourself.
Or I can send the binary file to you if there’s a chance to burn it at the repair center of your local dealer.
Stay tuned,
Rudi
