Although I’ve communicated with Amos via phone and e-mail I finally got a chance
to meet him in person at the 2010 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.
I was walking down the street Friday night with my good friend, John Teele, software
manager for Kurzweil, when Amos and I spotted each because we were both wearing
MOOG shirts.
The three of us (four if you count the bottle of Wild Turkey we killed) talked late into
the night about the future of both analog and digital synthesis.
The tech talk between these two geniuses was riveting and it was a thrill to be a part
of it. I can honestly say firsthand that Amos is very cool person to know.
I emailed Amos once to ask him a simple Voyager question and decided to ask him some personal questions about his work too, like how he got the job at Moog, what it’s like working there, his official title, etc., and I gotta say he impressed me with his knowledge and enthusiasm. He didn’t come across pretentious at all, and was really an inspiration to talk to.
The few times I’ve e-mailed Amos, and have talked on the phone with him, he always seemed like a very nice guy, so this doesn’t surprise me at all. I hope one day to visit the factory and meet him in person…if just to drop my Taurus 3’s off to get the LED’s switched out with blue ones.
