Greetings and info

Hello there,

i’m new to the forum and I want to ask you a little help for a problem I have with my Voyager. I’ve bought this moog months ago from a guy via eBay and during the shipment has been damaged. The Volume Decay potentiometer is cracked so no values is sent to the unit and the third oscillator is simply weird.

Here is a video of the oscillator issue: Voyager problem video

Sometimes (rarely… 1 on 100) it works flawlessly but very often sounds as you can see on the video. Any clue about the cause?

Anybody knows when I can buy a replacement potentiomenter to fix volume ADSR? Even the product number can be useful.

Thanks in advance and best regards from Italy.

Luca

It almost sounds like the 3rd OSC is being modulated by noise. Is all the modulation/pot mapping turned off?

arrivadela,

yes.. unless factory init preset involve noise modulation already on and, as i’ve said, sometimes this oscillator begin to work flawlessly but this happens rarely :\

Thanks

Luca

Welcome to the Family!

HOpe you get that thing fixed!

Thanks Erick

Ehi guys, any info about the kind of potentiometer I need to buy as replacement?

Luca

I think that you can find pots from synthesizers.com or you can probably contact Kevin lightener on this forum for Minimoog style pots, but im not sure who makes the same pots that the voyager uses.

EricK

I want to call you Lucca Brazzi from the godfather movie lolol.

Thanks erick. I think I can found the pot i need ever here in Italy, but I need to know if it is a linear or log pot and its value.

Cheers,
Luca

pm Amos on this forum he’ll be able to help you out.

Hello and welcome Luca !

Just look at the pot. Its data is printed on it.
So if time is not the critical matter, unplug and open the Voyager to chech the pot for its data. Then get a new pot of the same value and response curve and the same kind orientation of the soldering pins (to the opposite of the pot shaft)
But you need at least some soldering skills to change the pot. Maybe ask some electronic repair job to do the unsoldering and soldering of the new pot. If you tell them what you need to do, the don’t need to have experience in synths. And I think there is no need for recalibration after changing such an UI pot.
Good luck !

Thanks till,

as far as I remember, the first time i’ve take a look to the pot, I haven’t find any clue. I will check it once again. Fortunately, I can replace the pot by myself but i’m clueless about how to check the cause of the third oscillator issue.

Cheers,
Luca

ok, i’ve opened the moog and i’ve found that pots used are 10K Lin from Alpha.

Can this Mouser product be good as replacement?

Thanks again

Luca

up

The Mouser pot looks like a close match, but just to be safe, I’d contact Amos and ask him if it would work. E-mailing him will get you a faster response than PM’ing him. Amos [at] m00gmusicD0t cOM is his e-mail. Good Luck!

WHy don’t you just send the voyager back to Moog…although I understand your hesitation since it was the shipping company in the first place.

BUT the shipment was insured and the shipping company shoudl be responsible for getting you a new one or paying for the damages.

Eric

Hi Luca,
why don’t you order the pot from Moogmusic or from your Moogmusic distributor in Italy?

I guess the third oscillator problem can be a broken multiplexer on the digital board.
Have fun,
