Getting a square wave tremolo from MF-102 Ring Mod

I am trying to determine if the MF-102 can replace my tremolo pedal, including the ability to modulate amplitude with a square wave. I tried running the LFO out into the Carrier In, but that doesn’t really seem to work, and produces a loud clicking noise. Am I missing something here? Is there some other way to create a square wave tremolo with the MF-102? Thanks!

you might need to attenuate the square wave a little bit. it will still be square, just a shorter range.

Thanks for the response! Yes, I finally got around to reading “Lord of the Ring Mod” and that was the impression I was getting. Oh well, one more reason to get a CP-251!

CP-251, you can attenuate the hard edges with the lag processor.

Or feed the 102 LFO into the 251 S&H OUT1, OUT2 is filtered relative to the CP-251 LFO rate.

Maybe you need a dummy plug somewhere, not exactly sure about it.

!sknaht, no digital

for some reason i missed your post until now. finally got my cp-251 and came here to say that unfortunately the attenuator did not seem to fix the issue. however, i tried using the lag processor as you suggested, and sure enough, no more clicking! anyway, with the kind of sounds i am getting out of the few moogerfoogers I have accumulated, it is hard to really care about something like “square wave tremolo” anymore!
