Freqbox triggers ADSR

Hi!
I’m thinking of getting a Minitaur and a Freqbox.
So, do you think the freqbox can trigger the ADSRs of the Minitaur?
The patch would be: Bass guitar to “audio in” of Freqbox, “env out” of Freqbox to “gate in” of Minitaur. Freqbox “audio out” to “audio in” of Minitaur.
Thank you!

Welcome

Hmmm not sure about the compatibility between the FreqBox envelope CV output and the Minitaur gate input, but this could work. I’m curious, will try something tonight while my FreqBox is not sold yet.

I did this with slim phatty and MF-101. Only problem is that you need to turn the drive knob on MF-101 (in your case Freq Box) to maximum so you can fire the gate on synth. I don’t own the Minitaur and Freq Box so this may not be true on this machines.
But I’m sure that you can do something similar.

If you would prefer clean sound (without the effect of the drive circuit), you should split the signal before going into anything and use FreqBox as an Envelope Follower and other channel as a clean signal going into Mintaur.

We badly need a CP style unit with this functions (External audio interface with Env. follower/Gate/Trig out, ADSR and VCA). I really don’t want to compromise on my Moogers to get this going. Especially on stage.

I use my RM for number of things, also as a VCA, but it is not the perfect VCA circuit for this kind of things. I use it just for random VCA tricks with S&H (pseudo granular effect), and different tremolo/stutter stuff.

I was considering buying another one for VCA stuff, but I realized that is better for me to wait and see what happens next!

You might be further ahead just investing in the infrastructure for some envelope generators and VCAs like I eventually had to. Waiting for Moog to fill in the gaps in their moogerfooger modular is what drove me to finally get going with a real modular.

Rack Frame= 65
Small Power supply Qps2 =125 bucks
VCA=97
EnvGen = 92 bucks

$379 plus shipping but you have 6 more spaces to add some really cool other modules

The plunge is addictive, this is what it looked like a year ago (minus two foogers and other stuff not shown):

I’m 21U now.

.com modules, huh? Been thinking about going that way now. Doing a Pokémon thing and collect them all, but slowly. At first  Did you buy 'em all right away or one at a time? How do you hook 'em up?

What do you want the Minitaur to do? The way to hook it up as you suggest would be just as easy, if not easier, with the MF-101. And for the price of Minitaur you can get another fooger. I started with foogers for the sake of playing bass through them. Started w the 101 for envelope bass sounds, then the freqbox to make synth bass sounds and then the phaser for the wovely bass sound. And a CP-251 to go crazy with them…

@ EricK

Yeah, I would love to go .com, but for me, moogers are much more elegant solutions since I use them on floor (with guitar), on synth stand near by Slim and Brute, and in many other at hock applications.

I’m trying to think in all directions. If you take CP for example, it is small, it has many tricks and is cheep if you compare to 5 modules that you would spend money on if you would like to achieve the same result + power and cabinet. Yes, you get much more, and deeper tool, but when I play guitar I don’t need all that. What I need now is another Cp

And please Moog! Make us Cp-351!!!

I’m patient.

Anyway, one day I will go modular. I’m just not sure about format. I like 5u, I like eurorack prices and options, but somehow I’m more into moog stile.

MBlom,
I bought the sequencer first, then a vca. Then the other vca, envgen and mult/signal selector. Then I got 8 months of the entry system, then a STG mixer.

How is it hooked up? I mostly do the same basic patch all the time because the modular is just a very simple 1 osc synth voice with a sequencer. It just depends on how many patch cords are available. With the Foogers, the modular equals out to a pseudo-Studio 22.

Vitja,
I wouldn’t be too patient, I drew this up years ago and submitted it to an employee there with a marketing scheme and a reasoning why it should be built.

I understand though if your current needs would be better fulfilled elsewhere, but what you are trying to do and if you are thinking about going modular anyway this is a good time to start.
MU all the way, and it still gets cluttered.

Eric

Yes I remember this one. I had something similar but with VCA.
I would love to go modular, but at the moment I need more desktop synths with presets for my project.
More project I have, more gear I need.

Thanks to all of you for reply!
The thing I want to do is to get an EHX Enigma Qballs with the sound of the Minitaur filter. I want to get the control of the filter ADSR of the Minitaur.
