Can you some how? I think a second one would be cool but having a way to detune it in sync mode would really be beyond
just wondering…
The Freq box is only a single oscillator hard synced to the input.
Not sure what you mean by detune the sync..
Yes yes, this is known.
But! If you were to use TWO freq boxes hard syncing to the same input signal then have a way to detune one would be nice. I’m sure it could be done but the question is how hard would it be…
An interesting idea!
I don’t think there is a simple way to detune a FreqBox in sync mode. But you could use a pitch shifter fx on the output of one FreqBox to get a similar detuned type sound. Or maybe even drive the input of a second FreqBox with a pitch shifted signal.
Many digital fx units have a pitch shifter or frequency shifter effect. If you have one handy, give that a try!
Well, you can control the pitch of the un-synced freqbox from a MIDI to CV converter, and then you can use usual pitch bend MIDI message to detune them together…
Through the Audio input jack, the Freqbox ONLY works as a sync’d oscillator. If you throw the synch switch, it will simply drone at a given frequency as set by the top two knobs. At some frequencies, depending on the ‘quality’ of the signal, it may have difficult tracking (compressors are helpful); you want a nice consistent signal without all sorts of complex harmonics. But the envelope follower works nicely and can be used for external applications.
If not using Audio input, and instead using the FREQ CV input, you can use it as an unsync’d oscillator only. The waveform pot works as the Voyager does, it features a coarse and fine tuning (using Env. as fine) and outputs a VERY STRONG OSC signal which is suitable for attenuation and filtering/VCA, etc.
There is no hardware sync available through the FREQ input and OSC output that I’m aware of. But like the other bloke said, get yourself a Midi to CV converter or something like the Mindreader DIY solution if you want to match the frequency of an audio source and NOT have it sync’d.
I sold my FreqBox a few months ago; just wasn’t using it and wanted to buy another oscillator for my modular.
Alright! thanks for the ideas guys! now I have something to research.
I use the one freq box I have quiet a bit. I use it with bass most of the time v.s. with my synths… I find it is the best “synth” pedal out there for getting big, thick sounds, so the for me the idea of a set up with two keeps calling… but as you all can see by my questions I’m looking for…
I thought there was an internal trimmer pot that assisted with tuning… If this is the case, have MOOG mod it so its more accessable - I could be wrong.
The pitch shifter is a good idea, you would need one the does a step bend.
Even if there is a tuning trim, it won"t help since it must tune the internal VCO. What the original poster wants to achieve is detune the whole processed sound.
