FREQ BOX Questions

does any one know if you would be able to use a CV keyboard (or a midi keyboard running into a midi->cv convert) to control the Freqbox like a regular synth, w/o using a sound source just voltage.

and part 2, does any company make a CV keyboard, like for a modular unit?

i would like to get another synth but this would be easier on the wallet i think lol

Hey - try reading the manual first…

In it, it explains the pitch input scales 1V/oct, but the tracking is not quite linear, and variation in temperature will detune the oscillator. Apart from that, you would plug a pitch CV (either direct from a synth or via a MIDI-CV) into the frequency input.

It isn’t possible to acess the FB’s VCA, so you would need another env. follower/VCA to gate the notes. So you would probably want to use it as an extra oscillator for a synth e.g. Voyager.

thanks, yea i would have read the manual but
A) i dont own one yet and
B) My crappy computer doesn’t have acrobat reader, so i downloaded the manual but can’t read it

“acrobat reader” is free @ adobe.com. if your computer is REALLY crappy then click here for the HTML version of the manual:

There is always a way if you know how to Google!

Foxit Reader is a smaller footprint alternative that is fairly excellent:

Does the 107 Oscillator’s output with no audio on the input?

I think so - Osc. Out. No FM or audio-sync though, which makes sense as there isn’t any audio to sync to.

My FreqBox is the only MF that powers up bypassed. Wazzup with that?

The MFs usually work by changing the state at power down. So bypassed at power off → effected on power on and vice versa.

Yup - mine too. My RingMod ALWAYS powers up ON, the FreqBox ALWAYS powers up OFF - kinda strange but I’m OK with it. I don’t think it does that state-change thing mentioned above.

Hmm, I was sure mine changed. I could be wrong, though.
