Just found something interesting. In the liner notes to Frank Zappa’s 1972 album Waka/Jawaka, it states: “Thanks to Bob Moog & Co. for the use of their new frequency shifter.” (Found it on the 1988 CD, not sure if it’s on the vinyl)
I wonder what this is? At 8:04 into the last track on the album (“Waka/Jawaka”), there’s a great filter sweep, out of the drum solo into the final section. But I wonder if it might be referring instead to a phaser?
Also, Don Preston is credited with piano and Mini-Moog on the aforementioned track “Waka/Jawaka” - the filter sweep might just have been done on the Mini. (And of course, I have to mention once again Don Preston’s Mini-Moog solo on “Lonesome Electric Turkey” from Fillmore East, June 1971…)
