Flatten the Phatty - Minimoog style!

Hi all (and maybe specifically Amos!),

I would really love to flatten my LP, removing the back silver swoosh panel and replacing the side panels.

These would, of course, all be in wood.

My question is this (because doing this would be fairly simple):

Would the LP overheat as a result?

Many thanks!

Davo

where would you place LP’s power supply and midi and cv’s?

cous if i’m right, the power supply on a minimoog is behind controll panel,

together with osc and filter board and other stuff.

otherwise i like the idea

I think it would all fit… I’d recommend adding some passive vents for airflow; this should prevent overheating. I don’t have hard numbers on the LP heat output but it is not overwhelming.

That’d actually be really cool if it worked out. I’d consider doing it!

There is a solution for this: it’s called the Voyager!

haha  yes, buy voyager and throw some things out

Voyagers don’t have the modest charm of the little phatty.

hey! don’t start the family squabble

Thanks all!

Yeah, it would all fit snugly. No components would be too close. I believe!

The Voyager… yeah; but; I have a Phatty. $$. And as someone said, the modesty and refined taste that leads one to an LP…

Passive vents, huh! I’ll post pictures if I manage it…

Thanks!

Haha, when I first saw this thread I read the title as “fatten” the Little Phatty. So as I started to read it, I was asking myself "How the hell is doing what this guy wants to do going to “fatten” anything?

Umm yeah.

Well, if you are going to do this, I would definitely do it on a Phatty that you pick up used, no reason to void a new warranty…

But the warranty is lifetime, no matter how many crazy mods I do. Right?

Ha.

Good point; but I’m in the UK anyway so I couldn’t afford to send back for warranty repairs!

This is funny. When I had an Alesis ION, I seriously considered making wooden end caps and bending the front panel UP to be more like the Little Phatty. The screen is hard to read on those when it is flat.

But then I sold the ION and bought an LP. I get why you’d want to do that though. The LP really is huge for a 37-key monosynth. But it would still be really deep, just not tall.

I mean, it’s a typical thing for me to waste time thinking about. I’ve just never really been sold on the swoosh silver bit. I love the synth but would prefer it to be more angular!

Bring back angles!

i had warranty repair by local tehnician here in Croatia.
i was lonely just for a week, so i don’t see the reason way it would not be posible to repair anything if necessary in the UK.

so i say just do it!

Happiness means being content in whatever circumstances you’re in.

Play the Phatty… don’t smoosh it.

Peace.

designing=playing=happiness :wink:

Yeah man, let the Phatty be the curvaceous little beast that it is…

Don’t genetically modify it.

Free range Phatty!

PHREE THE PHATTY, DON’T PHLATTEN IT!!!

i’m starting to feel my confusion now. i’ll say no more
