firmware upgrade

Hi, I’m really a noob to midi stuff.
And maybe this a little out of track from moog, but i need to upgrade my alesis ION firmware and got no clue how to do it. I have midisport uno, and i’ve tried many ways to do it (by midi-ox) without any progress.

Could anyone give me step-by-step and detailed instruction on how to do it, will be very appreciate it.

Many thanks guys!

This group can help.

Actually i was asking cos i know that lots of you guys are using midi sport uno, so i think maybe you guys can help cos it seems like a general operational. Any inputs? Thanks again!

Updating Software Via MIDI

The Ion’s operating system software is upgradeable via MIDI. From
time to time Alesis will release updates, which will add or enhance
features. Software updates will be posted to the Alesis website.

In order to upgrade the Ion’s software, you will need a computer with a
MIDI interface and MIDI sequencing software.

To Upgrade the Software in your Ion:

  1. Connect the MIDI OUT of the computer to the MIDI IN of the
    Ion.
  2. Open the “.syx” software file in your sequencer program.
  3. Turn the Ion’s power on while holding both the [panel active a] and
    [panel active d] buttons.
  4. The display will read “do you want to upgrade software via
    midi?”
  5. Press the Left Soft Button, marked “yes”.
  6. Play the “.syx” file.
  7. The Ion will display the status of the update. After it has finished, it
    will reboot itself.

I am sure you read this already but try the program sysex librarian maybe?

Hi,
Yes i read it, but you made it clearer thanks. So far i only managed to put the ion on stand by mode waiting to install the new firmware.

The prob is, what sequencer program can i use, since i only have fruityloops and it couldn’t accept the sysex files (neither to open or to import).

Can i use it with fruityloops? or is there any freeware I can use for these things? and is that sysex librarian can be used for windows also?
cos right now i have midi-ox and it drives me crazy cos i don’t have any level of degree in midi.

And when people says play the file on slow tempo, how many bpm do you recommend?

Thank you so much for your time.

I’ve used Midiox with no problem.

If you’re running Windows, use MIDI-OX. Same as Sysex Librarian, but for Windows. Actually, I’ve heard that MIDI-OX is a bear to use compared to Sysex Librarian, but I’m a Mac user. I know nothing.

I’m sure the midi-ox is great, but i need the info about all the settings (from the scratch) so i can get the latest firmware in sysex file that i already downloaded into the my synth. And step-by-step of what to do. Thanks.

have you tried using Reaper to install your firmware update. It is a DAW like Cubase but free for the first 30 days and thereafter 60 bucks
www.reaper.fm
might be a bit more than what you were wanting but the extra may be just the thing.

I was actually about to use reaper, but I finally managed to upgrade it by midiox, the configs was the prob. Thanks anyway guys.
