You really have to always run the newest firmware available, mainly for editor compatibility, if not for most recent features and fixes.
Well, I’m rather in the “safe boat” when it comes to software: sometimes, the latest version brings regressions. When those affect a functionality you cannot go without, it can get annoying.
I always prefer let others test for me 
Well it’s been almost 2 years since it’s out… I’d say it’s definitely “safe” to upgrade
