Filtatron sampler only plays back around 15s?

Well this is lots of fun, very nice.

But… recordings loaded back into the sampler only seem to loop the first 15 seconds or so. Am I missing something?

Using iPod Touch 3rd gen / iOS 4.1

Ta!

Just me then?

you can record as long as you like but there is a 10MB limit on playback in the sampler. That should still work out to something like a couple of minutes though, not 15secs. What hardware/OS are you using? I’m happy to look into this further.

I’m having the same issue on the iPad. I’ve had to chop some samples down to four or 8 bars to get them to play all the way thru. Will we be getting an update for the iPad anytime soon?

Hi Amos, thanks.

Yes I had read those details in the manual which is why I ask. The recordings are fine, but as I say, playback seems to limit to a short loop.

See my first post for platform details.

Thanks for looking into it.

Right, so what I’d like to know is - is it that people aren’t using the sampler much for longer files, haven’t noticed a problem, or is there something condition dependent going on? Can anyone confirm that it absolutely will play back around a minute of recorded audio, say?

I think I’ll try deleting the app and re-installing it.

Thanks for any help, this is really a quick thing to test.

So I’ve tried to un/reinstall the app and that did nothing. I can’t even get an 8bar loop that’s less than 3mb to play all the way thru. Every sample I’ve loaded has been a 16bit 44.1 wav so I’m just hoping there’s a bug fix that’s soon coming. I’m on an iPad so I don’t have the luxury of using filtatron as a live fx yet.

Moog, any word on an update and when to expect it?

Thanks In Advance

I tried it last 10 bar!!

Thanks for the tips :slight_smile::slight_smile:

10 bars at what tempo?

Well I don’t know, I’ve tried reinstalling and it’s still not having it. Deleted all other apps from multitasking as well. Still only plays back a really short snippet of recordings. Shame, but I see this isn’t happening on all devices. Weird one - got any ideas Moogers? Has it at least been mentioned to the dev?

Cheers.

So, is this being looked into? I’m on an iPad with the current os and still can’t really enjoy this app because of this major bug.

Thanks In Advance

Seems to be the case w/ me too – recorded some stuff and it only plays back the first few seconds in the sampler, but transferring the files onto computer, they play fine, a couple minutes or whatever.

Hi,

Any news on this? I bought the app specifically to play long samples. If it is limited to 15 seconds surely this should be stated in the promotional specification.

Is there some kind of automatic memory allocation in play?

I’m going to try and leave more space on my iphone before loading samples to see if this makes any difference.

If this doesn’t work I’m going to be pitching my files up before transferring. Luckily its only speech I’m working on so lo fi isn’t too bad.

I hope for longer samples and an official response.

They finally fixed it! iPod import didn’t work for me tho but a great update nonetheless.

Yes, good news.

Thanks Moog you crazy enigmatic silent people.

Hi guys, sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this forum or I could have provided some more timely info.

Yes, you can now record and play back samples of any length, limited only by your device memory.

As for crashes on importing samples:
If you’ve experienced this, please give me any and all info you can. I have tested the new Import function on a couple of device and iOS versions, but there are plenty of combinations I haven’t tried and it seems at least one possible configuration has a crash. More info would be supremely helpful. Thanks!

Hi Amos,

I’m on an iPad w/ iOS 4.2.1. I tried loading a couple of my own songs, wav formatted 16 bit as well as a couple of random songs from my iPod library (both wav and aac). My own songs made the app crash on the first attempt. I restarted the iPad and the import function would allow me to load the song and rename it but once I tried to load it in the sampler nothing happened. The two random songs from my iPod library did the same but when I attempted to load them the showed as a light blue bar in the sampler and wouldn’t play.

I am very pleased that you guys fixed the sample playback length bug and pasting samples seems to work fine. Nice to have a moving cursor as well. Hopefully you guys will allow iPad users to zoom in on the waveform in the future. The note on future development is a bit unclear, will it become a universal app or are you guys going to make the iPad users buy another app?

Side note: I understand the “more info would be supremely helpful” sentiment and do hope that you or your partners will be visiting the forum more frequently. As great a surprise as this update was, i’d much prefer to get occasional responses to some of the posts here and not be left in the dark.

Thanks for the great work!

Aaron

Thanks Aaron! Point well taken about providing more incremental update info.

The plan for the “iPad version” is to convert the app to universal… There hasn’t been any talk about charging extra for this.
As long as there are no technical problems with changing the app format while calling it an incremental update, then the next/universal version should appear as a free update, just as v1.1.0 did.

I’ll look into the import crash behavior you’re reporting; sounds like something we can fix. Out of curiosity, do you have any songs in your iPad library that were originally in mp3 format? I’m curious to know if these crash on import or if they work properly. The import function transcodes the file from its original format to WAV and saves a copy, so perhaps it’s having problems transcoding from AAC, or with (needlessly) converting a file that is already a 16-bit WAV…

Thanks,

Amos

PS) happy new year!

Hi Amos,

I do have songs in my library that were originally mp3 format and one of those may very well be what I imported first and led to the initial crash. I’ll have to get back to you about exactly which formats cause which results. Will try to get to it and get back to you before the drinking starts!

Happy New Year

I just loaded an mp3 and an aac and they both imported and worked fine. So I guess I’ll make note of those songs which don’t as I tweak, pull info on those files from my laptop and let you know their details.

I have been unable to get the sample playback function to work with any of my songs or samples. My samples import okay from iTunes on iPad and I’m able to save them to Filtatron’s sample catalog; however, none of them will play back–no audio wave appears when they’re selected. All of the samples I have tried are under 15 secs. in length and in aif or wav (16-bit, 44.1) format.

When I saved the Filtatron app data to my desktop via iTunes, the imported samples were all there, but when I tried to play them on my desktop, I received the following QuickTime error message: “The movie could not be opened. The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -208).” Since the original samples play just fine in QuickTime, they must be getting screwed up somehow during the importation process.

Any advice?
