…at least for the knobs with a “middle position” (eg int, kb track, mod amounts, …)
Hi.
You should be able to set to default by Alt-clicking a knob. Doubeclicking is used for manually value editing.
I am responding here as it makes more sense than in the thread “Pop Up Click/double click” I added:
My original assumption was that double click was for manual editing , so I double clicked the knob, and tried to position the mouse cursor by an additional click in the box (as it is often done in other applications) This returns however the box to the display state. Obviously this is an interface choice that can be handled by documentation.
There is an editing issue though: there is no validation on the entered values:
- Out of range values will be set to either minimum or maximum value, e.g. -100 will become 0
- Decimal values will be rounded , meaning that unintentional entered comma or point means you will get a lower value. Editor only sees the first comma/point
- Real format errors return a value of zero (e.g. typing in “Moog” results in 0)
If feasible it would be nice to have a shift/ctrl/cmd … click option to return to the original value of the preset

Hello Hans.

I can verify that if you click inside the value field once opened by a doubleclick, it becomes blocked for editing. I guess it’s wrong and you should be able to place the cursor anywhere in the box by clicking inside it. I will report that.

Validation is done just the way you described, so it is correct.

Alt-Click will set a knob to default.
Thanks !
Hello Gil,
I do understand this technical “validation” approach , but is “undo” on the wish/feature list ? cmd Z does not work after entering data. That would really help to recover typos

Hans
Well, it seems like a very minor feature request, as you most of the time just rotate to the desired position, or re-enter.
Can you see more reasons for having an undo for manual value entry ?
Gil,
I had to have a good night sleep to think about the undo/redo in my workflow. At the end the editor for me is mostly a visual documentation application, with the ability to do some minor tweaks: Why should I edit a sound on screen if I can use the real knobs? Fact is that the physical knobs are not always great for making tiny variations: so that is where manual value editing pops in. A undo/redo function would allow me to toggle values (undo/redo) on the computer keyboard with my left hand, while playing the Moog keyboard to listen to the effect of the edit with my right hand.
Talking about small increment of values: is there a way to do small increments (like in ableton you can use often the arrow keys for that)?
Best regards
Hans
Up/Down arrows for one step up/down indeed could make a nice feature request. I will post this. Thanks.
