I bought an Etherwave Theremin off Ebay and it arrived today. It does not seem to be working properly. It makes a static buzzing that is unaffected by the volume antennae, and the buzz is slightly affected by the pitch antennae. I have played around with the Volume and Pitch Knobs, and no difference. I have tried plugging it into different outlets, because I thought it may be a grounding issue (Which is what it sounds like). I tried different 1/4" cables.
Is it broken? Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
It could be just a solder issue but the more I think about it then perhaps not.
THe only thing ive noticed about my Theremin is that when I first got it, it was silent. But after I took the antennas off a few times it begain making a static sound and come to think of it I haven’t noticed it anymore. It doesn’t quite sound like that you are experiencing though.
My first thought would be to try a brand new power supply. Im sure that Amos or someone on here can shed some light.
And if not, from what I understand, the theremin is a relatively simple circuit so its not like what you have can’t be easily remedied.
Hope you get that thing going.
Eric
Hi Steve,
Did you get your theremin working yet? I came across the same problem, but I received the kit new and built it from scratch. The Volume & Pitch knobs don’t seem to respond as they should and there is a loud hum as if to suggest a grounding problem. The overall volume is low although I have checked to make sure it is connected properly to mixer and there are no obstrusive objects nearby. I am confident the soldering was done properly and the power supply is brand new. The one building step that didn’t quite makes sense was not bending the 4" wire ends connecting board lugs to antennae lugs. There was some 1/4" or so extra length that went past the board lug locations. Could this cause problems? Any insight on this would be helpful so I can start playing my theremin.
Thanks,
TokyoMonAmour
Try another amp (often solves the ground problem)
If it’s a european EW theremin , you will need a converter for the US (220V to 110V)
Thanks for that
