I was mid song last night & the string in my EP-2 snapped (about an inch from the toe end of the pedal). I quickly whipped the backplate off & unwound it once from the pot & threaded the string back on & tied it & all plays well again. Thankfully, it was only rehearsal.
However, I could do with replacing the string with a new one as I have a gig in November & don’t want a repeat on stage.
Does anyone know if it has to be a certain type of string or will almost any do?
I tried doing a search & googling it, but it appears no one has ever asked this before!
Related question; has anybody taken their EP-2 apart? Is it really just the trim and main pot inside as the mini-schematic suggests? I ask because BOTH of my EP-2 pedals, and I’ve had light use of each are flakey now, which is to say that the action is unreliable. Neither stay at one extreme or the other (heel/toe).
Any guidance as to whether or not this is something that can be fixed. To be clear, mine still works; it’s just that the mechanism is rather sloppy. I’ve seen high end volume pedals such as the Ernie Ball which use a cog drive similar to the Multipedal but they are usually ‘volume’ pedals and the range isn’t well suited for Expression pedal control (250k or 25k).
Tighten the nut slightly. Mine started to loosen over time and the mechanism would make it ‘spring’ back slightly from the extremes. Amos suggested just tightening the bolt slightly (use a proper sprocket set). Only a tiny tiny turn and hey presto, good as new again.
