I never use it normally but I just tried it running to the CV input of a analogue systems rs180 VCA on my modular.
I don’t have a scope to really look at it but it seems to be sending only a very short trigger or gatelike signal - not really the smooth envelope that I’m hearing from the fooger. it seems to be at a very low level too.
I am wondering if there might be a mismatch of voltage levels or whether mine is faulty?
It says it operates on +/- 10v, and I think all the Foogers are +/- 5v. It won’t hurt anything, but you might not get a wide range out of the VCA, and this seems to be what you are describing.
What I discovered about env out:
If you use it like audio signal and you set it drive-max,2 pole, fast,
you get strange distortion or oscilator kind of thing…
Has any one tried this?
Nope.
Just like I said. And is strange sound.
It is like a RM octaver(if you split your signal to RM),but not octave higher.
So you get some pops when you hit the note, but is cool and it works
in lower register.
Hmm, very strange. I would think the ENV OUT would only give you a positive DC signal. Have you tried recording this into a DAW? I’m wondering if the waveform appears completely above the zero line.
Well, since you are hearing something (even though distorted) I don’t think you have to worry about breaking anything. You can probably damage your speakers with a strong “flat” DC signal, but you wouldn’t hear much except an initial “pop” as the speaker cones get pushed out. As long as you keep the volume down, your speakers are probably fine.
“It says it operates on +/- 10v, and I think all the Foogers are +/- 5v”
yes thanks, make sense. I tried the CP251 attenuator as well which helped a bit but not enough (couldn’t find the specs on those attenuators though… anyone?). the output when sent to a VCO makes pretty nice 80s syndrum sound (mind you that is pretty much all it does)
The good news for me is that the envelope output has enough voltage and edge to use as a gate to clock anything on my modular. So I can run sequences or trigger sample and hold generators to step ahead at whatever rate I am playing into the mf101, very nice to slave the beast to my playing
I had also discovered vitja’s trick earlier today - with everything up full the frequency of the mf101 envelopes can indeed get fast enough to sound like a cranky VCO. But I hadn’t thought of using this into a ringmod - its quite interesting in a forgotten planet kind of way… thanks!
This Env is very interesting. If you set drive all the way up,close the cutoff/2 pole, amt full/fast,mix full and res zero and you use some distortion,I used TS808 (lower the level of drive to half)which is more like a overdrive, you can get very, very interesting synth like muted sound with fast attack and mellow body. It tracks beautifully all over my neck.
I have MF-101,MF-102,MF-104Z and MP-201. I was always experimenting with
RM and Delay…Filter was for me just filter, but is so much more!
I like to patch carrier out (from RM) to cutoff freq!
Is this called FM?
I am new to all this.
I should get CP-251 or two of them
Yes you should get some CPs, they really take your foogers into the modular realm. the lag processor is especially neat as you can take the square wave out from the cp lfo and shape it into anything from a triangle to ramp up saw to ramp down saw. CV mixing means you can take two lfos w/ different rates and shapes and moosh em together to create more complex modulations. Really every feature on the CP is quite useful, it’s amazing what they managed to fit in a device that’s smaller than any stompbox fooger.
Can anyone tell me how does this work:
Carrier out(on RM) to Mixer in,Exp. pedal to mixer in(red jacks, write?)
and then positive output to Cutoff of LPF.
Can you open and close the filter with pedal like you would do with your hand?
Can you get the whole spectrum?
I really like this sound, but I dont own a cp yet.
So I do it with may hand.
