Dull Light - What is happening?

Hey peeps, wishing everyone a happy new year etc etc.

Bad times for my Moog! It’s driving me nuts. The day it all works how I want it to, will be the day I kiss a strange passer-by on their forehead and sing “hallelujah!” to the world.

I’ve never been able to manually adjust the tempo on screen just how my friend can with his, which I wrote a post about but never had any luck with. (People tell me this is impossible although he does exactly that with his Little Phatty on a daily basis!) However this isn’t the only issue

I NOW HAVE A NEW PROBLEM!

I Midi synced it to cubase 6, connected with a USB lead, and I now have one light duller than all the rest, and consequently, the feature for which the light represents, no longer works.

It is the light next to the backwards wave, in the Modulation section just below the top knob, to the right. As I hit the button and switch between the different waves, all lights are bright..then when I get to the backwards wave it is much duller and fainter, and the feature no longer operates.

What on earth is going on? Someone please help. I really am getting frustrated with this Moog and feel like chucking it but I want to get to grips with it, it’s just as if whenever I try to give it some attention it just buggers up! HELP PLEASE!

PS. I like to use a wobble bass… Dubstep style, quite often, and this is one of the main reasons I purchased this Moog. However I can no longer achieve this (or certainly not in the way I usually do…Don’t know of any other way)

Please note, I am not an idiot… I’m just not an analog synth expert, however I do own and run a professional studio facility and am a respected mix engineer and producer based in London, UK. I have always used VSTs & sound modules and I bought this Moog to help me get more hands on with synths and get to grips with them but I’m not having much luck.

I think I may be able to help a bit. First of all, when ARP SETUP clock source is MIDI, you cannot manually adjust arp tempo (it is waiting for MIDI tempo info).

Change ARP SETUP CLK SRC: to INTERNAL then adjust away…

Is the dim LED the THIRD one or the FOURTH? I seem to remember having a similar issue when I had LFO clock source set to MIDI with no incoming MIDI. I am trying to recreate this but currently cannot.

I just re-created this.
LFO SYNC CLK SRC: MIDI
turn off phatty
turn on phatty
The fourth Waveform LED (RAMP) is dim
the modulation LFO rate is looking for MIDI, and since I have no incoming MIDI signal, it remains static.

If you press then hold LFO RATE button until it flashes, you can tap tempo the LFO RATE.

You could also revert and switch the LFO SYNC CLK SRC: from MIDI back to INTERNAL (with this setting it won’t sync LFO to your sequence though.)

I’ve also seen a dim ramp LFO light when the phatty is resetting the LFO at a rate thats faster than the LFO. The LED gets brighter based on the LFO wave form, and the ramp starts of low if i remember correctly… So that LED always appeared dimmer than the rest when it was getting reset quicker than the LFO speed…

Not sure if thats what you are experiencing. Dont give up on the moog! Hardware and VSTs operate very differently. keep at it!

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the responses, I’ve sorted it out now thanks to your guidance.

With my now functioning Little Phatty, I’ve been spending some time with it, getting to know it a bit better and reading up more about the whole process of synthesis… So I’m hanging in there & not giving up just yet.

Again, big thanks… Without people like yourselves taking time out of their days to help people like me, there would be lots of ‘people like me’ throwing beautiful pieces of equipment down the stairs in all corners of the world.
