DIY patchbay

Hi all. I want to build a patchbay without using “crappy” (depending on who you ask) Behringer or expensive ones. Also, I am building a custom case, so 19" isn’t going to fit or work.

My plan thus far is to buy a hundred or so stereo jacks with DPST switches http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/45e655b6000f5e422740c0a87f33068c/Product/View/P1296
and cable up all my moogers using stero jacks with a common ground. The way I see it is that if the switches are closed when a cable isn’t inserted, the socket on the 'fooger will think there is nothing plugged in, and so the knobs on the unit will work normally.

Does anyone know how the jacks’ switches in the 'foogers work? And will there be any trouble (noise) with patching audio (only a few feet distance)?

i’ve been happy with my Neutrik patchbay.. all of the knobs work fine plugged in using TRS patch cables. audio patching has worked great too.
