I just recently downloaded an mpg of Deep Purple at california jam and i noticed Jon Lord was playing two syntheiszers. the panels were white and I was wondering if anyone knows of what make and model those synthesizers were..
Those were early model ARP Odysseys he played. You can tell because the early models had white faces. Also, I’ve seen close-up pix of him playing them where you can definitely tell that they were white faced Odysseys.
It would be nice if the Cal Jam was available on DVD. At least the ELP segment. They performed there on the 'Brain Salad Surgery" tour.
Agreed, Jon Lord played dual “white faced” Arp Odysseys. I would love to see the Deep Purple set from the California Jam. I happened across the complete ELP set of the Cal Jam ABC broadcast on Usenet. The video quality is not the best, but to be able to experience it in any capacity is awesome. I had wanted to see it since I was 16 and heard about the legendary performance. I was only 12 when the event was originally broadcast and wasn’t into ELP yet so I missed it. But all these years later (through the wonders of the Net) I finally got to see Keith doing the levitating 360 grand piano solo and the modular Moog spreading wings and exploding at the end of “Karn Evil 9 (Third Impression)”. Exciting and monumental electronic music history indeed!!!
