Dancing lights

When I plug some types of outputs from my LP, it causes the control pot lights to move around. I think it also affects the sound a bit. For example if I plug the LP directly into my amp, it’s fine but if I plug the LP into a couple of effects and then into the amp, the lights dance and the sound is altered. I’ve noticed this happening with the midi cables as well. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

thanks
Eric

it is probably some stray electrical voltage on the “ground” connection of your audio cable… I have seen this cause the symptoms you describe. If it only happens when you plug into certain effects, there could be a grounding/shielding issue with the jacks on those effects units. I recommend testing the voltage on the audio cable that would run to the Phatty, using a digital volt meter, when this is happening.

Also for anyone who has issues with the LP spontaneously changing parameter values or switching from preset to panel mode without being touched: this is something that can happen if the ground connection on your electrical power to the LP is not good. make sure you always connect the LP to a properly-grounded outlet; never a power strip with the ground pin removed, for example. If you have ground-related hum problems on your audio, use a DI box with ground lift on the audio connection, don’t compromise the ground connection on the power side. For that matter, Eric you may want to try using a DI box between the LP and the problematic pedals to see if this form of isolation fixes the problem.
