I have very little open space available for my “semi-modular” synth expansion in my hobby studio, so I want to make the most of the space available.
I’m rack-mounting my Minitaur in a small 4U rack (the 1U space is occupied bu a Furman power strip, so the rack will be full) and it occurred to me that the Minitaur rack kit has quite a bit of potentially usable panel space that is going to waste. While I have no intention of defacing the Moog logo (that would be sacrilege!!
), the blank panel seems like it would have plenty of room for several 1/4" phone jacks to be used as a “multiples” for distributing CV signals between the Moog components (Minitaur, several Moogerfoogers, etc.)
With this in mind, I have few questions for such an arrangement:
- What type of 1/4" jacks would be best would be best to use - TRS or TS?
If I set this up with 2 or 3 separate groups pf jacks, should the shield of all the jacks be connected between the groups?
I have a couple of 5VDC power supplies available, so I’m considering setting up one group of jacks to accept an expression pedal and provide simultaneous variable voltage between the rest of the jacks in that particular group. If I go this route, are there any particular precautions that need to be taken to ensure a “clean” CV voltage out for the Moog gear?
Thanks in advance!
