creating CV shapes for the LP

Hi, very nice to meet you all.

I got my LP SE II today (#3303). Wow! It is just an amazing sounding synth! I can’t get enough the overload. I think it is just the best filter drive ever. Yum.

I love the idea of being able to use CV to shape sounds on this thing. What I would like to do is get some modules to create some interesting CV modulation shapes for the LP and|MF-101 (+ future foogers), that can (somehow) be synced to midi clock and/or triggered via midi.

I thought a good place to start would be a midi to cv converter and something like a CP-251. I guess my first real question would be, is the CP-251 right for the job? Can it’s LFOs be synced and/ or triggered? Chances are I’ll end up getting one anyway, just for good measure, but it would be cool if it could be rigged to do something like that.

The next thing I would like to ask you all is, what are some other ideas for creating some really cool CV modulation shapes? EG types or LFO’s. On my Virus, I can do recursive modulation and modulate the the rate of LFO 1 with LFO 1. It gives a really cool exaggerated curve to the modulation. Synced to midi clock it gets very, usably, fun.
I can has in analog domain?

It seems to me like maybe a lot to ask without getting into a full blown modular system, but I would love to hear what ideas you guys might have.

The CP-251 is very versatile. I love mine, and have no idea how I got along without it for nearly a year. I’m sure that anything you want it to do, it will do. Welcome to the forum, BTW! I don’t use MIDI much at all, except to trigger GarageBand instruments, but I’m sure there’s someone here able to help you out with those aspects of your rig.

Well I think that the LFO can be synced on the cp251 because you can adjust the rate via expression pedal. I may be mistaken but even if it can’t be synced, its still usable.

Now you might want to consider getting some modules from synthesizers.com. They have a midi to cv converter module as well as an instrument interface.

Their most basic synth is a rack 8

and it is basically a 1 osc synth with filter envgen and vca.

But if you want, you don’t necessarily have to get even that. You can just get something like envelope generators (with a power supply) or Oscs that double as LFOs. you shoudl go there and just see because in my opinion all roads in synthesis eventually lead to modulars.

THe cp251 though is very versatile as well and contains about 7 different Moog modules in 1. You can put together some nice looking rack based synths to go along with your rig.

I do believe that the MURF pedal has a tap tempo circuit inside it that you could likely export to a trigger.

Hope this helps,
Eric

I agree. Eventually, if you keep digging, you end up in modular-ville. As much as I would love to have a full blown modular, it is not in the cards for me at this point. That said, I do like the idea of a small processing rack to compliment my LP and DSI evolver keyboard.

So, with a midi to cv converter, would I be able to use note on to trigger cv envelopes? If I could do that, I could create some quasi-syncable modulation shapes and mess them up by passing them through other modules.

The more I read about the CP-251, the more I realize that I must have it. In all honesty, that should keep me busy for a few months
