CP251 VS Silent Way

I recently picked up a Cp251 to go with my MF102 , Sub Phatty, Slim Phatty… But then I downloaded Silent Way and I’m outputting CV from my MOTU 828MKII… So now I’m asking myself, ‘do I really need my CP251??’ Silent way does soooooo much it seems pointless to keep the CP251.
But, I’m new to CV so I may not be thinking of uses combining the CP251 and Silent Way where the CP251 could not be replaced by Silent Way. Of course, I can route endless tracks of Silent way through each other in Ableton tracks, then output the mixed signals.

Can someone give me a reason(s) why its really necessary to keep a CP251 when you’re using Silent Way?

I’m considering returning the CP251 and picking up another Fooger in its place and just using SWay.

Some people (I’m one) like bare metal and like experimenting with patching and knobs to turn; same folks that don’t like messing with a mouse and a laptop or perhaps even a touchpad/ipad.

Silent Way is incredibly powerful, I especially like the voice dispatch (for round robin poly functionality), the fact that you could have independent envelopes all driven according to the same slope/time, and that there are options for trigger outputs; awesome for kicking analog drums.

But it needs Euro and needs a computer not to mention, restrictions on a certain type of audio interface (my Saffire isn’t supported; something to do with DC coupling).

Drawbacks are that it’s pretty much output only so you won’t be able to mix CV signals as far as I know.

If you are of the generation of youngsters  that relish using a Mac laptop or something like it, then sell your CP and pickup some Silent Way hardware. It is extremely well supported via the forum on Muffs (Oz must have postings go to his phone because he is obsessed with solving issues; very admirable for a small ‘company’ (aka one man operation) to provide such good support.

I second EMwhite on the metal/wood/knobs vs. computer point.

I need touching. And I need no screen.

I definitely enjoy knobs. And I love routing cables. My MOTU 828MKII is fully functional with SW. I’m not sure what all encompasses the ‘generation of youngsters’; I’m 33, been programming synths and making music since 1997… But I’m just getting into CV. A bit late to the party, but I’m loving it. I suppose I came up in the thick of the VAs. I started on an AN1x and the Gen. 1 Nord Lead with an old school roland midi sequencer.

I guess in terms of cost/functionality, with the knob romance not taken into account; I was thinking in terms of where to put that $380ish dollars. That’s another Fooger right there. I’ll add more as $ permits but, I’ve got my eye on that Freqbox

I played with the CP and Silent Way last night, and I definitely need to make more cables. Lots more. I think I’m just going to keep the CP, but I welcome anyone else’s input on this sort of virtual CV if you will, versus the CP251.
