cp 251 power supply

hi all

i have purchased a cp-251 in my country, but it comes without power supply…so i need to find one. A generic 9 volt with (+) polarity is ok or there are other specifications? thanks for any help!

check the manual for current and voltage specs… i think the CP-251 uses 200 mA

It draws 50 mA, so don’t use a high-current supply (over 200 mA) unless it’s regulated.

thank you very much

well i’ve purchased this visualsound powersupply that is used buy many guitar players 1Spot Visual Sound and this to reverse the polarity Visual Sound reverse polarity.

This combination works fine with cp-251 alone and the little phatty. But the power supply has a max of 1700 mAmpere so could give power to more pedals. So i ve tried with this to connect cp-251 and a boss delay dd3. The routing of signal: cp-251–>little phatty—>delay—>mixer.
The problem with this setup is a strange and very annoying noise in background like a beep…that ends up when i disconnect the delay or the cp-251. I am not expert about electricity issues…could someone help me? i know only that delay and cp-251 have different polarity, and they work fine in “standalone mode” but when i connect both with LP there is this strange noise in background. can’t different polaritys work together?

thanks in advance for any help/suggestion

Hallo

OneSpots are Switchmode/Switching Power Supply Units (SPSU). They work differently than linear/transformer based designs. They use a switching frequency which is fine for most consumer electronics but can really mess up audio gear sound wise.

It’s best to get a linear supply, even though you can’t get as much current out of them for the same size/price.

When you start to daisy chain power lines of effects together you often get a hum or ringing, either due to drawing too much current or oscillation between the pedals. The best fix is to use a separate supply for each box.

thank you very much! i don’t know if with gears of the same polarity this ringing will occur…i ll try when i could get the next mf. i would like to know if with a thing like this there are problems to connect effects of different polarities (for example moogerfoogers and a generic reverb pedal with (-) polarity). Unfortunately in live performance is a little bit problematic to use separate supply for each pedal xD.
thanks in advance!

Hi,

The different polarity won’t make a difference in my opinion. Both effects are running on +9 VDC. If one was running on -9 VDC, then you’d have problems .

Yes, the Pedal Powers have worked very well for people on this forum. The key is “isolated outputs” so there is no interference between effects.

I have used daisy chains in the past. That’s what I do at the moment actually and the solution is very noisy (work in progress). I think it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the amount of current used by pedals sharing the same supply and possibly to put similar types of effects (e.g. all Boss, all Moog) on each transformer.
