Cp-251 mixer question

Lets say there are alot of us out here who are trying to increase the number of oscillators in our system.

Some might be using the Freq box or the Ring Mod or multiple freq’s.

My goal is to turn my MicroMoog into a 3 osc synth using a Moog 921A/B combo, the Mf-102 and the Cp251 to get the Ring Mod to scale properly.

I think it woudl be easy to use either of them but when i think about how I woudl run both of them back in to the MicroMoog for filtering is where my dilema begins.

So my question is…can the Mixer section on the CP-251 be used for audio signals or only combining and distributing voltages?

This question has been asked before, but yes, you can use the CP-251 Mixer to combine audio signals. It has a very wide bandwidth and can easily combine up to four audio sources.

You also need to be mindful of the Mixer OFFSET control, which should be zeroed out if you’re using the Mixer for audio.

Okay,

If I have the Ring Mod and the Freq Box can I tune them to any interval that I want just as if they were hardwired Oscillators?

Yes, both the Freq Box oscillator and the carrier on the Ring Mod can be continuously adjusted from very low to very high, so you could dial in any interval you wanted between the two. Keep in mind, though, that there’s only one waveform for the Ring Mod carrier. And since there’s no fine tuning knob on either oscillator (just one knob for the whole range), it can take a bit of dexterity to get things exactly where you want them.

One other thing to keep in mind – in some cases the CP-251 can produce a high-pitched whine that makes it not great for audio mixing (mine does, sadly). This has been discussed before, and although many people don’t experience it, some do. In the cases where it happens, it’s sometimes fixed by giving the CP its own power source (not daisy-chaining with anything else), although in my case that didn’t fix the problem. So if you have a choice of CPs, try them all out and be sure that you get a quiet one.

THanks alot for the info.

Well I won’t have a choise so hopefully luck will be on my side.
