I have a Voyager and the VX-351. I recently picked up a CP-251 and noticed quite a drop off as far as build quality and design. The knobs don’t turn smoothly and are mounted a bit raised from the surface as opposed to the knobs on the Voyager and 351 that are almost flush with the surface. Is there something wrong with my unit or are all of the 251’s like this?
No, I don’t think you have anything wrong with your CP-251. Mine is the same way. Same issues. My MF-102 is also the same way. Both my MF-104’s pots are smooth like the VX-351. I was wondering about the difference in components myself.
Same here too
Today I mounted both my VX and CP into the moog rack mount kit. While doing the conversion I took the oportunity to check out the pots on both units and found out that the VX has ALPHA pots and the CP has an unknown (to me) brand. Definitely different pots between the two which is why they feel defferent. Just as I suspected. Both units look very professional inside. So, I would assume that Moog just decided to use cheaper pots for the CP’s to keep costs down since there are 9 of them. The VX only has 2. Makes sense to use the same quality pots on the VX as on the Voyager since they go together.
Can we keep this running in the “Moogerfooger” section???
