Hello,
I already own the CP-251 and the VX-351, and i tried for the first time yesterday to control another synth using CV…i hooked my Roland SH-101 up to my Voyager using the CV-Gate outs on the expander to the ins on the 101…i played the Voyager and the Roland played but it was playing in the wrong scale…it seems that the Voyager was not putting out the correct Control Voltages for the Roland SH-101…???
Has anyone had this problem?
Thank you,
David
It’s an offset problem. Zero volts is low F on a Voyager but may not be the same note on the Roland.
Very common problem linking multiple analogs of different makes. You need to mix an offset DC voltage with the Voyager keyboard CV using the CP-251 but where to get the DC voltage…? Maybe Moog Music has a simple solution that is not obvious right now.
Hello again,
I decided to be brave and e-mail Tech support(Steve) with my control voltage question(why would i do a thing like that???) and this was the answer:
…"What serial # is your VX-351? If it’s younger than # 16 it may need a
special daughter board.
After #16 there is a trimmer to set the output precisely @ 1V/Oct - it may
need a slight adjustment… "
“…if you send it in we can
install it and the price includes shipping back to you.
Only the first 16 of these were not exactly 1 V/ Octave - it adds circuitry
to add that little trim control - hence the (cost)…”
My serial number is 7 so i need the “daughter board”.
If there are any of you out there with this problem check the serial on your VX-351.
David
Look like you’ll need the daughter board for the 351.
But on top of that…
Diffrent synthesizers companys used diffrent CV scales for control. Moog uses V/Oct. while companys like Korg used Hz/Oct.
I have a Korg X-911 guitar synth. I tried to slave the VCO from the X-911 to my Voyager. I tuned both the X-911 and Voyager to a “C” but as I moved from that, the X-911 got further and further out of tune. It took almost 2 octaves played on the Voyager to get the X-911’s octave. It still sounded pretty cool though. It’s like having a microtonal Indian harmony line sailing through a song/pattern. You could also cause it to FM/ring modulate a VCO as well.
I’m not sure about Roland but it may say somewhere on the In/Out.
I have also read somewhere that if you add a 100k resistor to the +/hot line of a cable it fixes the “problem” of Hz/Oct to V/Oct conversion.
Anyone know if it’s true???[/b]
