I’m considering buying a VX-351 output expander for my Voyager to integrate the foogers. But I’m not sure about how to control the Freqbox’s oscillator. If I feed it the Voyagers output and hard sync it, its out put can go a little wacky. So I was thinking about if the freqbox could be controlled solely with CVs. If I’d feed the Audio In with Voyager Env Out and Freq In with Voyagers Pitch Out. Would that give me a separate oscillator with the same (amplifier) envelope structure to filter and process parallell to the Voyager? For example through the 103 and 101. If so that would give me loads of sonic possibilities! And purchasing a VX-351 would be a no brainer.
SImpler: link the pitch CV out of the Voyager into the pitch CV in of the FreqBox. Mix 100% on the later, and audio out in the Voyager insert, for example.
Sorry, I wasn’t being clear. Added “to filter and process parallell to the Voyager”.
I mean I’d like the Moogerfoogers to play parallell to my Voyager and mix the two in a separate mixer (if not perhaps in the CP-251) for individual filtering.
You posted about this awhile back, right?
To use the 107 as an osc you just put a pitch out to the Freq in, and use the osc out to whatever mixer or filter you have. You can also take the osc out to the audio input and use the audio out to the mixer. This will allow the envelope pot to “fine tune” the frequency knob’s coarse adjustment.
I don’t believe that inserting a control voltage into the audio jack will do anything.
Maybe, I’m probably a little over enthusiastic and trigger happy when it comes to asking questions about the Moogerfoogers and Voyager. Though it’s sometimes hard to explain my ideas. Like now.
Well, the thing is I thought the Freqbox’s envelope follower could give me an “enveloped” pitch-tuned signal from the freqbox. Since the amplitude of audio sent to Audio In controls the freqbox’s envelope I thought it would maybe be done with a CV-signal. This way I could get a parallell minisynth from the foogers to layer with the Voyager.
Hmm. I just realised I might just be able to test this with my Kenton Pro Solo midi-to-cv.
Eric is right. The right brain of the FreqBox goes dead when you plug into FREQ expression pedal input so the Envelope follower and the part of the circuit that hard sync’s to the audio is disabled in favor of the course and fine tune controls.
Putting aside fact that you don’t want the frequency being mucked with if you are controlling the OSC via CV freq in, it WOULD be handy and should be possible to still have the envelope follower circuit work as it should but I’m not sure that Moog designed it with this in mind (e.g. the env follower and the hard sync freq matching is coupled and needs to be severed en mass by the Freq jack).
It’s been a while since I owned mine so I may be making part of this up
but when I had mine, I used it for a 3rd OSC for my Little phatty (mine has CV outs) and it worked well enough for small ranges (octave and a half).
But in the ends, I sold it and bought a MU format Oscillator for my modular which I subsequently traded for an MOTM format Oscillator. Check back in 6 months and I’ll have an update of what I sold next… f’ing madness…
You’re fine!
With the cp, you can combine the pitch with the filter envelope for tone which maybe scoops to the pitch?
