Compatible Expression pedals other than Moog EP-2

Has anyone had success with using a different expression pedal with their Little Phatty? I just can’t take buying anymore of them. They’re cheap and unreliable.

Someone please help.

The M-Audio EX-P works well. It’s a rather cheap build but it is also cheap to buy. I bought half a dozen and if I remember, I think I paid around 20 bucks each.

It shares the same pedigree as the i-Pod-Pad-Phone family : Designed in the US, made in Egg Roll Land.

Thanks but I’m not really looking for any more cheap pedals. I want something that is going to last.

Thanks for the reply. I’m really looking for a sturdy pedal though. Anyone have any experience with the Boss FV500 or any of the Roland expression pedals?

The pedal is very smooth, I have not broken any yet. But I understand, it’s up to you.

In the tank like build department, Boss/Roland has good stuff. The xx500 means it has a 500k pot. That’s too much, there is a lower impedance model, something like 200k if I remember. Anyway, look for something in the 50k - 100k range if possible.
The EP-2 is 50k (actually measures at 44k), the EX-P is 60k.

I use an FV500L as a volume pedal. Built like a tank. I love it.
Thinking about getting a FV500H for expression.

The pedal itself makes squeaky sounds when I use it. Like the hinges of an old door…
Its not a problem unless you play very quiet music. Some lubricant would probably fix it though.

As far as I know, the pot in the FV500’s are not right for the little phatty.

Luckily Im not using it for the phatty…

Maybe this thread could shed some light on the subject:

I have a post in that thread. I remember now searching for specifications of Roland Pedals. Very little to be found. I trust my older post regarding ohmage, so what I wrote here (from memory) that xx500 = 500k is not accurate. I wanted to buy one, but decided not to for two reasons : too expensive and I don’t need a tank.

Anyway the following still applies :

  • A log pot works well for volume (guitars) but is not optimal for expression.
  • Moog recommend 50k linear, which is the same as the internal pot in foogers, according to Moog literature.

The best thing is to try before buying.

Demon_Dan is product manager at Sweetwater, and those he recommended, he tried, so I would trust that.

Those I use are the EP-2, M-audio EX-P, and the 25k Moog model 1120 controller, but that’s another story, they build things differently back then.

I use the M-Audio also ( it came with my Electro Harmonix HOG) daily with the little phatty for volume cv and pitch cv and the only issue I have ever had was the adjustment pot got moved and so didn’t go completly off (until I re-adjusted it).

I would certainly buy another or two before I bought a $60 exp pedal.

Funny you say that, because at this point I’d probably spend any amount of money to have the “perfect expression pedal”
