I’m sorry this looks like a repeatation of other thread .. but i’m looking for opinions for LP’s companion under $1500, preferably below $1000 if it’s possible on good sounding polyphonic synth .. since almost all of opinions on the other thread downed to access virus ti which it’s too pricey for my wallet.. thanks guys!
Maybe a Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard will work out for you, it’s €799,- and doesn’t sound bad at all. Plus you will have all the Microwave wavetables. ![]()
- Do you need a keyboard, or can it be a rack or desktop module?
- Are you open to used/vintage, or do you want it to be new?
- Real analog? Or is digital/virtual analog fine?
If you like what you hear in the Virus, you can get a used Virus Indigo or Virus KB for under $1,000 U.S. - they show up on Ebay every once in a while. I’m not particularly thrilled by the Virus line, I’m just pointing that out in case you really wanted one.
If you don’t mind buying vintage gear, I would highly recommend either a Roland Juno 60 or a Korg PolySix. Real analog beats virtual analog every time in my opinion, and both of those synths are just FUN because of all the knobs and the lack of menus to go through.
As for something brand new, the only one I have experience with is the Alesis ION - or the cheaper, smaller Micron, since I don’t think they make the ION anymore. It sounds great, but the user interface has a lot of menus to go through. It will get the job done for a cheap price though.
I sold my ion, just too many sub menu to dig in. Not bad soundwise. But was’t really like it that much.
At this point I’ll get used, analog, va, old or new. But preferebly analog. And absolutely not soft synth.
Actually I’m falling in love with ti polar’s sounds when I heard those presets in that box, not even edited yet. Is there anything with that kind of sounds in a cheaper price range?
Thanx.
I think you’re referring to my post a week or so ago…I was actually coming more from you’re angle with a limit of $1500…I’m getting close to considering picking up more moogerfoogers (LFO or FreqBox or Phaser) or the Control Processor. Until I get my hands on a Virus TI Desktop or Snow to tweak for myself…I’m not gonna be convinced by the steep price tag…
yes, the reason i made this more precise thread on below 1500 is to avoid that ti’s this and ti’s that.
Hmm .. jeez .. i know i really want to get that polar home too. My gosh .. seems like both of our threads has to end up on that bloody virus .. haha .. any other opinions .. anyone (desperate tone
)?
Prophet '08 module? ![]()
you can get a ti snow NEW for $1100 and control it w/ the phatty…
Mmmm … I tried one briefly some time ago … almost fell in love …

What’s the difference between 60 and 106?
And is it possible to ask “which one is better in most terms” ?

Juno 60 does not have MIDI, Juno 106 does. IMO, I always thought the 60 sounded better.

From what I have seen, this is like opening up a HUGE can of worms. Almost as bad as the Minimoog VS Voyager debate.
I personally like the sound of the 60, as the 106 sounds kind of cold to my ears. But that’s just me.

The 60 have the ability to modulate oscillator pulse from its envelope but no midi. . Also the overall built quality of 60 is better.
And than there is this voice chip problem whit 106..
This are the facts and about the sound differences..
I don’t think the sound of 106 is god enough (compering to 60) When I was buying juno 60, I had opportunity to hear both synths side by side and bought 60..
I’m actually looking for poly that has good strings, pads, piano (if possible), and deep crazy fx ..

If poly and piano is what you want, look at digital gear. I might try Rolankorgaha or Nord for such an animal. The hard part is the under $1500. Perhaps Music Go Round would have something you could look at? They also take trade-ins, and are in many states. The one in Kenosha Wisconsin had a Waldorf Q and it sold for $1500. ![]()
