I found a RME that looked very good but the panel light knob is wobbly so I was thinking, maybe I could do it myself? I haggled it down to 1000 gbp from 1300 gbp, it looks good, panel is bright, the serial is RM1115 so It´s not that old and it´s out of the faulty danger zone ranging from serials 1330 thru1925. I figure the pot is 50 gbp including shipping or so?
It’s the pot itself that wobbles. Yeah I asked the seller the same thing, how can something so sturdy get that banged up? It’s built for taking a serious beating. But he just said that someone must’ve turned the knob too hard lol. Supposedly it has been sitting in a studio for a few years and not getting much use. Anyway I haggled it down £300 and I figured I could fix it myself.
Yeah it probably won’t matter but I’d like it to be a friend for life, or if I decide to sell it I’d like it to be in good shape.
Remove the knob. Tighten the nut. Put the knob back on.
I have to do this every few years to the pots on my Signature. Use 'em a lot and they will get loose.
Use a nut driver or socket and NOT pliers or wrenches and you wont scratch anything. (I have sockets with soft faces that won’t scratch. Overkill, but left over from an OEM I worked for.)
