Change in to Intel

Will the apple chip change to Intel effect any of the software we use for music production. i.e. moog … Garbageband … etc.

If I understand correctly, yes, the Intel chip will affect existing software. Not to worry, though. Most software companies will definitely update their software to run on both PowerPC and Intel run Macs. Check it out:

But the Intel Macs won’t come out for another two years, you’re going to be waiting for a long time!

And maybe this isn’t the best forum for this sort of question. I’m sure some computer nerd-type forum would be able to answer your computer questions better!

The first intel macs will be out in 9 days in the form of a mac mini and new ibooks. There maybe dual core intel powerbooks as well released on that date.Steve Jobs keynote speech on 10th Jan 06. Check macrumors.com for more info.

The new Intel version of OSX will come with an emulation layer called Rossetta which SHOULD be able to seamlessly run your old PowerPC compiled applications. You’ll probably see a significant speed hit when running highend graphics and audio applications, but those should be ported over to the Intel platform by their respective manufacturers.

APPLE didn’t answered my question yet, if non xCode apps will be able to use a USB midi interface and other CoreAudio functions without a change. And will our Midi interfaces (that will no receive a driver update unless being less then a year or so old) run on a MacTel ?
