I just got an MF-104z and I’m loving it! It’s my first moogerfooger (and also my first effects pedal) so I’m not too sure what to do since there’s no power switch.
I’m just wondering if it’s safe to leave it plugged in all the time? I usually unplug the power cable from the device when I’m not using it. Is this the normal thing to do? It just seems a little weird to have to plug in a wire when I want to power on my setup. Will the device overheat or get damaged if left plugged in for too long?
I usually unplug my gear when Im not using it because I don’t yet own any power conditioners. I use a few power strips and some of them have outlets where whatever is pluged in stays powered despite the switch on the strip.
So I definately would advise unplugging the stuff since the FOogers have no power switch. How long are you talking about leaving them on?
I usually unplug mine for a few reasons. One, because I don’t want a power surge to fry the expensive stuff, two, because it saves energy (though wastes mine later when I have to run all over plugging everything on, and three, because I baby my stuff anyway.
Im sure that it woudln’t hurt them to be on for longer periods. I have heard of synth.com users that have actually left their modulars on for weeks to find they are still alright and in tune.
Thanks for the reply Erik. I know what you mean about not wanting to damage a new expensive piece of gear. I turn off the pedal whenever I turn off my LP (which is what I use it with), I was just wondering whether it’s normal to unplug it. I was just thinking down the line when I get more foogers, would be annoying to have a bunch of small power cables dangling around. But I guess I can plug them all into one of those power adapters with a switch (like you said) and then just use that switch as the ‘main’ power switch for the foogers.
Heh, yeah, the MF-104z is quite the deluxe first pedal to own, but a local store here had it on special new for 499$ so I simply couldn’t pass the opportunity! I’ve now been bitten by the moogerfooger bug and look forward to owning the whole collection one day!
