I make House, Electro music and id like some advice or ideas on setting my Moogerfoogers up with the cp251 and vx 351 and the VoyagerRME / Phatty…I have yet to add the 352 to my kit list (but its coming soon)… Im pretty clueless at this and feel im soooo missing out considering the gear i have.
Im getting pretty pissed off with myself because i cant seem to even get the vx351 to do anything and i cant get the foogers linked to the Voyager…etc..etc, bla bla sorry i must be boring you..
Please help me by setting me on my way with some simple ideas to get my creative juices flowing..
Have you read through the manuals? They all have lots of examples for you to try.
The ol’ mantra: grab some patch cords and go!
Put effects (phaser, Freqbox, ringmod) in the loop of the delay
Route KB pitch to delay time or feedback (delay again)
Put the phaser in the RME’s insert loop with the sweep controlled by an envelope
The 102 and 103 have LFOs that you can route anywhere
The 107 has an envelope
Consider the 352 for access to the RME’s CV inputs.
For ways to incorporate the LP with 'Foogers, read my thread in the Moogerfooger forum titled A New Patch Discovery! Too Good to Keep Secret! That should help you get started since, incidently, we have similar 'Foogers.
TRS cables are only used for the expression inputs on the top row on the back of the Moogerfoogers, and then only when controlling the corresponding parameters with an LFO or expression pedal or similar device. Just to make things perfectly clear.
You shohuld be able to get some great duophonic sounds with the LP and the RME. I envy this combination frankly.
But in my personal and humble opinion you really need the 352 to really benefit the most from your modular setup.
At this time, the LP and the RME are best for outputs because the LP doesn’t have that many options for CV input control. THe only real way to slave the LP and the RME are through midi…which is fine but it leave your Foogers yearning to crack the whip of some slaved CV gear.
The Vx351 will allow you to output all of the Voyager’s many CV outs to allow you a hefty amount of slavery over your foogers.
THe LP also has a few outs for control over the foogers, but I think you don’t merely want to use your foogers for processing audio signals alone, you want to use them to input Control signals into both synths.
So you really need the Vx352 because it contains all of the CV inputs for the voyager that will allow you to internalize all of the great Fooger Control signals.
Now with the Vx351, you should be able to use the Freqbox and the Ringmod as extra oscillators, and with the LP that will bring your total Osc to 7. So if you are using Midi for Duophony then you will have some fat sounds. Add the cp251 to this and some of those extra oscs can be Modulated via the S&H and the LFO.
Look,
Basically you have the setup for some highly advanced synthesis. Its just going to take you a few years to really realize the capabillity of what you have there. There are things that you can do with what you have that you will think “I had no idea that I could do THAT for THIS” You will get ideas from other members, but the best thing that I can reccomend for you is to go and find some of the old vintage Moog manuals in addition to the Current ones and just read them over and over and over.
Read the Tom Rhea MicroMoog/MiniMoog manuals. I reccomend Tom Rhea because he was also a physics engineer who knew Bob Moog and they are vastly superior in content to any current Moog manual as far as reading them multiple times and learning something new goes.
If you have any way to use any of the Arturia Moog Software as well then that will help you out also. THe software will help you use the hardware and vice versa.
You can also go to synthesizers.com and get on their message board and since they are a modular synthesis company then some people there may help you with some advanced techniques as well.
Hope you have the patience, the patchcords and the time and you will be doing some hardcore left field outerspace synthesis!
