Can Animoog receive MIDI via WiFi?

Hi,

Can I send MIDI notes from my DAW to Animoog via WiFi without using any Core MIDI Interface, maybe with another MIDI app linked to Animoog?

I mean, I can control Reaper on Windows with my Android phone using rtpMIDI. Something like that.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. I’ve made it work with rtpMIDI under Windows 7 to send MIDI to Animoog. (I’d class that as using Core MIDI on iPad.) But I don’t think you’ll find it working right until first Animoog bugfix release. (See “Note Off” thread.) Don’t think it will go the other way.

Thanks for your answer, Newstech.

I know the note off issue but I am still interested in knowing how is your set up.

I got another app called AC-7 and after running it, I open rtpMIDI and it detects my iPad instantly, but if I open Animoog, rtpMIDI can not see the iPad.

Thanks again.

In Animoog, under Setup, do you see Network Session 1 available as a MIDI input? If so, tap it to enable it. At that point, you should see the Latency number next to your iPad’s name under Participants start to update.

More info: In rtpMIDI, I have a session pointing to the IP address of my iPad (I use assigned address, not DHCP) on port 5004. Then I start Midi-Ox (wonderful program!!). Under Devices, I pick USB Midi Cable as input and the rtp session as output. At that point notes played on the Yamaha keyboard are sent to Animoog and play there.

Alternative: In Reaper / Preferences, I enable USB MIDI cable as a MIDI input and rtp as a MIDI output. Then I set up a track with the USB as my MIDI input and configure MIDI hardware output for the track to rtp, channel 1. When I play the Yamaha, the notes sound in both the VST assigned to the Reaper track and in Animoog.

Let us know how you do.

Thank you Newstech, for your detailed explanation. Everything works fine now. The problem is that I don’t know what I did the first time because the Network Session 1 didn’t appear under the MIDI Input

Thanks a lot!

Yay! Quite welcome.
